Gun transfer

In Minnesota if I sell a gun to a guy what do I all need to do? As long as I see a permit to carry or a permit to buy I can sell to him right? And just make a bill of sale with the serial number? Thats all I've found from searching.. Thanks

Unless you have your FFL I don't see why you would need to do anything. A bill of sale with the serial number wouldn't be a bad idea for you to keep. The less paperwork the better.

as far as i know nothing needs to be done. you and him may want to make sure it gets registered in his name

Why would he want to do that? If I bought a used gun it would NOT be registered. Less papertrail for big brother to track. That's the beauty of buying from a private party.

So say its used in a defense situation or at least used... Is all im going to need is to show a bill of sale with his signature and a serial number? to make sure the blames not on me.

So by this I guess you are saying you have registered the gun in your name? If so I would definately get a bill of sale signed to protect your rear. You might also get some id, copy his drivers license. If the gun was never registered to you don't waste the time. Swampy

Its a straw deal. Like if someone buys a car and you make the payments. Straw deal. Its a grey zone. If he kills himself........and he isnt allowed to own a gun....you're in deepsh*t. If he is allowed to own it and kills himself.....fair deal.

Its a grey zone

you don't have to do anything in MN for private sale...course not many guys will sell that way anymore. If you do, lots of guys will make up a bill of sale so they are covered if the gun is used in a crime and traced back to them. Like others said, if it's in your name then get the bill of sale to cover yourself.

Course if you trust the guy why do any paper work at all.

Its a friend of a buddy of mine. I was thinking I'll write up a bill of sale and have it say that he has no criminal backround and able to own a gun. and copy his driver's licence on it as well. Than call it good..
