guardsman pass advice

Me and a buddy are going to be up in Park City next weekend and want to ride Guardsmans Pass one day. I've been to the pass briefly last winter. We will leave from the Deer Valley lot (like last year). Last year we went to the right once we got the top, but I was with a group of beginner riders so it was a very mild day.

Any advice for where my buddy and I should go this year? Right, left, etc.? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Good riders with avy and safety equipment.

My advice? Don't go to Guardsman. It's one of the worst places to ride along the Wasatch front in my opinion. I've been there a few times, and there aren't many times that someone in our group hasn't come out without damage. Having said that, if you're going to ride it anyway, go east towards the Midway side (towards Wasatch State Park).

Guardsman is full of steep terrain and trees. It's just not great riding, especially considering the Avy danger we're seeing in Utah right now.

A little off topic, but is the Wasatch state park road out of Midway always open up to a parking lot below deer valley ski lifts? I've always come in from the Brighton side and seen trucks and trailers parked down there. Anyone with any information?

No, the road from midway closes with snow and you can ride from wasatch state park up into guardsman. the road from park city/deer valley is plowed to the shoulder parking lot. Thats probably the one you are seeing.

crazy

I love the trees, take this ride rasmussen style to a new level, my brother and I love guardsman its close to us in the slc valley, and the trees add a new degree of difficulty. its been a long while since i have scored any damage from riding in the trees. you find a spot where the trees aren't to thick and start going there is lots of fresh snow in trees
