Guardsman or American Fork Canyon?

I am planning on an early Saturday morning ride and I am wondering if American Fork Canyon is a nice spring ride. I have been going up over Guardsman the last few weeks but I thought I may try something new.

Any suggestions? I can only go up for about three hours.

Don't know about AF but Spring in Utah you need altitude (above 8-9k) for it to be half decent riding...just keep that in mind.

I haven't been up AF this year but I would assume there is not enough snow down at the parking lot. Could be wrong though.

I may be wrong about this but, because the first couple of miles from the parking lot dont get groomed because of the "bottleneck", they melt super fast. I have ridden lots of mud and rocks in years past in the springtime up there. the parking lot at Tibble Forkis at pretty low elevation.

AF canyon is always a rough ride from Tibble Fork up to Graveyard Flats (about 4 miles). I would guess that with the poor snowfall this year its gonna beat your sled up pretty good. The trail is never groomed and gets lots of ATV and XC skier use. There are dry patches even on a good snow year. If I were you, I'd either wait until after the next big storm or head up much higher. A bad day fishing is always better than a good day at work but a bad day sledding is worse than a bad day fishing.

Rode AF saturday morning. Dont go up the bottom.
Go up to Silver lake. First corner has about 500 feet of asphalt and then your onto snow... hopefully they get some snow out of this storm... i cant believe how little snow there is now up in dry fork... crazy how fast it melts in the heat!

I actually find it amazing that the snow sticks around this long when its been so hot. The guys on ty4stroke have already put the sleds away. gotta love the altitude.
change in the air tho :)

Went up to Guardsman on Saturday morning about 7:30 road for about 2 hours and was done. There are just two many rocks to worry about. I guess I can't complain too much I was still able to enjoy a few hours. I am hoping that these snow storms stick around until this weekend.
