After reading all these threads about bigger turbines working well on 2 strokes would a gt30 series garrett be a good turbo for a turbo etec? I run the trask kit and it currently has a 2860. Have access to a gt3076 would this combo work or be too big? Thanks in advance guys.

Thanks Gus that seems to be the turbo to have for these turbo 2 smokes. Was just wondering about the gt30 as i have one from the drift car but i will look into gettin the 2876. You have any experience with the turbo etec Gus?

DUDE,, if you have a 3071 ball bearing sitting around..
by all means

SAVE dough ,, get a yr ahead of the rest and go .64 hot side 3071..just buy the housing.

Too bad we are so far apart, would LOVE to take the issues out of that e tech with you..

I will say no more.. I want nothing to doooooo wth making the 2 selling these ( bogging poor performing kits) any better... they have agendas I dont agree with..

Fly me out and lets have some fun...Always like pouring salt into my competitors wounds !!!

Gus

Haha ya i would love to get together and get this thing running right. Where are you located? Im crossing my fingers that neil has some sucess with his boost it system on the etec. You think i could make the 30 series garrett work?

lol ya thats a bit of a drive:face-icon-small-sho. Well im gonna try the current set up with the new fuel controller then maybe i will have to give the gt30 a go see if its better. I bet that turbo would make some serious power.

The bigger turbos keep charge temps lower at same power levels, if your only running 10-12lbs and not doing any real long pulls you might be better off without it, ask someone who knows though. I don't know of a single person that has put on a bigger turbo has put the 2860 back on if that tells you anything. My sled has had a 2871 since new when it came out fall of 08, now there running a 2876, go figure.

It might be cheaper in the long run to take him up on that and fly him out, lol

Thanks for the links those are a couple of good threads. I'm still fairly new to the whole turbo thing so its a steep learning curve:face-icon-small-sho. I have a 30 series turbo at home that i think i might have to try out now! Doesn't sound like the 2860 is doing the job.

From what I can gather the 2876 with the .86 housing is what you want for a 28 series or in the 30 series like 3071 with a .64 housing works well to, I think some said the 28 is better for lower boost and the bottom end is better and the 30 is better than the 2860 but maybe not as responsive as the 2876. But now there trying even bigger stuff and it might only be a matter of tuning before we are running gt40's , lol
I got a couple duramax turbos laying here maybe I should use one of those monsters.

Haha ya a gt40 is one big snail!! Ya im convinced to get rid of the 2860 and get into something bigger. Looks like i will throw the gt30 on here just gotta get the right size housing for her. Talking with Gus now so im sure he will shed some light on my situation!! Looks to be a fun year of boosting:face-icon-small-hap.

3071 w/ .64 housing will be a ripper on an 800 class sled ( i ride with one) and a 3076 would probably be even better.

im would make an honest bet you can pull the same clutching with ~half the boost with that turbo upgrade.

I hope so! Was running 12 lbs on the 2860 last season and it did pull good but not so great on the response. Gonna do the gt30 and would be nice to see the same power at lower boost levels! Then turn it up for some fun:face-icon-small-hap

Do you run the same .64 on the 3076

yep... the reason being is the .64 housing on the 30's has the almost identical flow characteristics as the .86 28's. but this way you get the bigger exhaust wheel and gasses getting necked down some more... i guess the theory is somethign like better leverage gus was saying and it made some good sense.

Yep the bigger compressor does sound like a nice match for the 2 stroke. Might be all my sled needs to start running like it should!:face-icon-small-coo
