Group Riding in the Mountains

What would you do if a group of three people asked to join you for a ride to the Mountains then decided to leave you out there? This happened to my wife and I. She got stuck trying to get up a hill, the others just left, we caught up to them back at the parking lot 2 hrs later 50km away. Should we be upset or is that just the norm nowadays?

I would have to say that's not the norm from our experience...but there are people out there who don't have any 'sleddin' etiquette'. If they were part of your group (and you were good enough to have them join you) then they should stay part of the group - that's the whole point of having a group! Not offering help with the stuck and not letting you know they were disbanding is uncool. If it was us, we would've been worried about where they went...and they're off at the parking lot unconcerned!!! It's just not right.

Not the norm. When I go, I help everyone in the group. I find myself counting sleds all day when we have a group. But there are a lot of people who do not like to help others, even when they are in your group.

I'd say that if they ever want to hook up with ya again, I'd be just as rude about it as they were by leaving you behind. I'd tell them that I will never sled with you again.

Look at it this way; If you were lost out there, there are people who would get out of their beds and come look for you. Those ****ers wouldn't even let off the throttle.

Have fun out there man...

I'm with beeson and Taminator - that's not the norm either, for our group anyway. Usually I ride with one other guy, sometimes up to 4 people in our group. We all wait and we all help one another out. No one leaves anyone else behind. If someone is stuck, we all help, no matter what, unless its a super easy single person job to get unstuck.

If one person wants to go somewhere, usually we will split into 2 pairs and agree to meet back somewhere at a certain time or call on the radio at a certain time. This rarely happens though, usually we follow one another around the hills.

What these folks did to you is poor etiquette and if it was me, I wouldn't ride with them again.

that's just really lame, not to mention a huge lack of respect....you were good enough to let these clowns join YOU on YOUR ride, right??? i'm sure we all know people of this lineage; only slightly removed from knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers!!!

Lots of people to ride with in this neck of the woods that will watch out for their riding partners. You start as a group, then you finish as a group. Leave them at home next time.(and yes you should be pissed at them)

Now let's not associate the knuckle draggers with the mouth breathers as I have a breathing disorder and breath predominatly through my mouth! That being said I would NEVER leave someone on the hill that I ASKED to ride with! That is just not right!!

Total crap in my book. I would not ride with them again. Plain selfish. Im curious what they had to say for themselves in the parking lot? Any hint of apology?

when we ride in kakwa, we start as a group of three or four. but by the time we get back to the cabin, we are 10-15, and we always keep track of who stays and who goes. i do it in the hope that WHEN i get stuck, someone is looking for me.

each year we do an annual trip out west to a "Certain" location
our group starts out w about 12 ppl in it
by the end of the day, there are usually 3 groups

it starts when one guy gets stuck, everbody takes off
this year one buddy was having mechanical problems w his sled
everyone took off, we stayed to help him out

he got it figurd out, but needed some time
so we played in the area where he was till he was done (he didnt need help - he was ok)

so the 4 of us rode together the rest of the day..met up w everybody at the end of the day and they were like, "what you coudlnt keep up?" - was pretty annoying

same thing happened the next day - and we got lost for 2 hours in a blizzard cause we don't know the area that well
thought for sure we were spending the night - thank god it cleared up a little so we could get out
