gripper skis or gopro camera?

OK so I've seriously spent enough already and going to snowy range Wyoming at least once at the end of March maybe mid April depending on weather/luck

So which one should I get? never mind the minor price differences its just plain one or the other for minimum of 6 days of riding in the mountains, trees powder hopefully some bigger jumps/drop offs etc besides these 2 mountain trips a yr mostly UP Michigan riding 60/40 off trail/on

I have a 12 switchback assault 2.0 with the rush skis aka the skinny ones

I really want the flotation but if its really not a huge difference it'd be nice to film something for once!

Personally, I would go with the skis. There are videos everywhere you can watch. As for the Go Pro-great little camera but hate the videos that most people post. It always seems like I want to keep looking up at the top to see what is not there. Most guys never get them pointed correctly and I think the wide angle gets a little tough to watch. I would go with (and have) the liquid image goggles. Cam built in, you can see if it is running, can operate yourself, great video, and it always seems to be pointed where you are looking-no experimenting needed to find the right angle. If you go with a cam, please don't post anything showing you smashing through trees or cutting anything down to get unstuck. The fruit and nut group will eventually be using that kind of footage against us!

Go for the skis. I do the same mix of riding as you do and I just made the switch on my '12 S/B Assault 2.0 and there's a pretty good difference. I also put 6" woody's on the Grippers and I like them better than the stockers for on the trail.

these liquid image goggles look really cool except then I'm stuck with only ever using that camera as goggle view no versatility (like for other things other than riding)
i could see getting those goggles start of next season though :)
how long is your battery lasting if non-stop 720?

no worries about bad camera angles or random nonsense i would actually edit it correctly and unless one of my friends put it on youtube it'd be a garage drinking bench talk video

Get the drift. I have both the Drift and the GoPro. The colours are better on the Drift and the wireless remote control is a huge benefit. The Drift also fits better on a helmet, lower profile than the GoPro. Better in the trees so it don't get knocked off.

Do you have the hero or the hero 2? The hero 2 seems to have really improved... at least when I compare my youtube clips to the youtube hero clips. I don't think I've seen much from the Drift, so I can't really comment on it. The remote control is definitely a cool feature though.

Yeah, just pop it on the handle bars, easy. My GoPro I use for Scuba diving now and thats pretty much it. The 60 meter depth rating of the GoPro case is a benefit in that respect. I have the HD Hero, not the 2. The colours on the new Hero 2 are more compatible to the Drift and also, if I'm not mistaken the Hero 2 has an 11 MP sensor as opposed to the previous 5 MP sensor. The new Drift HD Has a 9 MP sensor.

If you will be using it for diving and/or other water sports, get the GoPro, if for dry/snow sports, get the Drift HD.

Check out www.pointofviewcameras.com for all the info you'll ever need on helmet cams.

I have ordered all of my helmet cams through their canadian site and they have always been great to deal with and fast delivery. If something isn't right or something changes, they have contacted me to let me know.

I would go with the skis first and then the GoPro 2. Never settle for just one, just space the purchases out a little. :face-icon-small-hap

With the skis you'll notice the difference in powder and will elevate the enjoyment of riding and just make the riding experience that much better. The camera will capture the trip in a new way which is great but I would rather have the performance factor first.

On a side note I have the GoPro Hero 2 and it's an awesome camera. This is my second GoPro Hero and this one is way nicer then the first. Great video, great pics, easy to use and endless mounting options. I've used it for diving, sledding, and on the motorcycle. Next I'd like to try some gun mounts out. I've ridden with guys that have the Contour and the Vio but I still like the GoPro better even if you have a little lunch box on your head.

And yes the GoPro 2 is a 11 mp camera but can be changed into different modes.

Get both :). Its only $. But, get a Drift!

Not sure what skis cost, but my buddy skibum_1260 had a set of used grippers for sale. Think he was asking $300

Get the camera. It's a lot of fun to be able to look back at the trip and enjoy it for years to come with the video. I vote for the GoPro...I have the HD Hero and I would argue that the wide angle lens is a little weird but important. If you point it right, and use 960 mode, you have a huge vertical field of view that lets you see the sled, rider, and what's going on out in front. Makes it more interesting when you can see what the rider is doing IMO.

Do you want to look like a Teletubbie?? LOL Then buy a GoPro. All kidding aside, they are a good camera, not the best camera, but they do look silly to me.

Lol I don't care about the look of a the gopro (hero2) on me looking funny ill be in the middle of nowhere!
Thx for the info guys I'm think I'm gonna go with 8" sly dog powder hounds unless someones got a better ski reccomedation for the $$$? Ill get the camera later or I suppose I could recoup some money selling the other skis then get the camera! Not sure how those skis would be on the harder packed trails/ditch bangin tho aka bar hopping

No personnel experience with these but everyone that has them sure seems to like them. I have one buddy that has a pair and swears there the best ski he's ever ran.
