a couple weeks ago i removed my oil tank to get it powder coated . when i pulled the pick up[ out of the bottom of the tank there was a bunch of grey flake/chunks around the screen . i have no idea what this stuff was it did smell like gas though . could this be from me running av gas ? the sled has 5000km on it and all of it has been on av gas and yamalube semi synthetic . has anyone else found this ?

Yeah, I had the same thing. It looked like metal at first but when I touched the flakes they fell completly apart, I ran alot of av gas also. I am not sure what it was but it did not seem like metal shavings.

Just a hunch, but I would say you are seeing lead deposits. Even with 100LL, you will see deposits especially after running it for 5000kms.

I noticed the same thing when I was draining my oil tank this weekend. As the last drops were dripping out I noticed that each drop had a gray tint to it. Sounds like it may be a common thing after seeing this post.

exactly ! thats the same thing i noticed . i was just a little worried that it was about a quarter of the way up the intake screen in the oil tank . Maybe it would be a good idea for us running Av gas to just pull the pick up out of the oil tank every oil change ?

av

I have been running av gas for 2000 miles on a boosted nytro, I always add some marval mystery oil with it and i have never seen this. I dont know if it has anything to do with it or i havent been running it long enough to notice it.

Av gas gonna wreck my engine?

You add the oil to your fuel? I have lots of this around since my Pops runs a 1952 Cessna 195 with a Turbo Jake Radial engine. How much are u adding per tank?

My friend just got his Mcx Apex rebuilt and he said the inside of the engine was coated with carbon and lead deposits. Thats from three seasons of being turbo'd all on straight AV 100LL. Any one else have lead deposits on their engine? Its just so much cheaper then race and seems to run great. I do not wanna damage my engine though from Av thats for sure. Opinions from Av gas burners please.
Thanks

just had my motor rebuilt too after 11000 km of boosted good times ! looked good for that many km . only the parts that rode on the cams were a bit wore . the lead just seems to fall apart if you touch it , shouldn't do any damage . i plan on keeping on running it , unless some one wants to bring me race gas from the states? AV in revy is up to 1.78 a littre :face-icon-small-con
