Grenaded Reverse Diamond Drive ! Upgrades ?

So the dealers all say the they never see Diamond Drives fail ? I have a 2008 M8 Sno Pro 153" and the Diamond Drive Failed at 1,500 miles and one week past the extended warranty. Since I will be paying for the full repair is there any performance up grades for it ? I ride anywhere from 7,500 ft to 13,000 and full grear weigh 250. What grearing should I be looking at and I want to stay away from the cheesy Arctic Cat parts as much as possible. I know BDX makes the lite system but would like to keep the reverse system. Thanks

I believe the issue is bearing that AC skimped out on. Supposedly there is a way to get the older style bearing to work in the new DD. I would talk to your dealer about getting it covered if the extended warranty just expired. I know my dealer negotiated a deal with the extended warranty for work and the customer had to pay half of the bill. I had this same issue with my DD one year ago yesterday but lucked out and it was covered. I don't know anything about the BDX DD but do know you can change gearing while in there. I had 55/65's put in and know others who did 53/67 gears. Good luck.

pretty sure on the cases w/ mechanical reverse you have to machine down the bearing seat area to get the wider bdx bearing on there. the bearings seem to be more of a problem in the 09' DD the brass shims going and taking out the planetary seem to be the killers on the 07'-08'. I would put the bdx gears in if you are rebuilding your DD as they have extra holes to pass more oil to the planetary and are one piece not welded. i know you want to keep reverse, but just fyi bdx said they will have the lite drive equipt with their 1 piece gears, the wider bearing, and now a new planteray (maybe straight cut) that does away with the brass shims. this will be what i put in if/when mine goes

Seems to be kind of common, w/ the 08s. Buddy of mine blew his (SP), luckly his was still under warranty. Best of luck.

Yes i have the same machine 08 M8 SP 153 i went to change gears found brass in the case later found the shims on the planet gears 2 out of 5 were gone and the planetary was discolored (black)where they were missing also the output shaft bearing was rough probably from contamination.I just rebuilt mine for about 250 bucks 170 for the planetary and 60 bucks for bearings and then oil all from BDX.I figured it would have blew up next trip i am glad i was changing gears and caught it in time.I also change oil every 500 miles and have about 1600 or 1700 miles on mine

Your best bet is to call Mike at BDX and ask him if there are any upgrades that can be done to the 07-08 DD. He will have your answer.

If you have a 08 sno-pro 1000, buy a diamond lite drive and shaft from BDX. Then do to 08 ecu mod that gives you electronic RER like the 09-10. You will also have to get a 09 helix.

I have a BDX diamond lite in my 07 M8 and would never go back to the stock 07-08 rer drive.
