Greenwater..?

Has anyone been up to greenwater since this last storm? We went last week after the last storm and it was ok.. not as good as I thought it was going to be. Crystal mtn says they have 40" at the base....soooo hopefully greenwater got hammered!! Any input would be great.

Was up there yesterday. Got hammerd is an understatement. There is sooo much new snow. The groomer had not been out as of 10:00am tues morn. We were plowing about 4’ of powder for miles and unable to make it to the cabin. (mostly due to a 700 that just couldn’t handle it). Forest Service has the road blocked at the very first hill. Fyi… lots of downed and leaning trees on FS70 so bring a chain saw if you have a tall enclosed trailer. Maybe FS will clear soon?

Even MORE trees down now

Spoke with the Groomer this morning. Even MORE trees are down now on the 70 road. Personally, I would wait until the wind calms down a bit before going anywhere near there. But it you do head up, plan on a lot of chain-saw work. If you are cutting your way in, please cut them back far enough so that they don't interfere with the plowing, otherwise we could end up back where we were a few years ago with pretty much one lane in.

Just watch your parking. I've had multiple friends that have gotten tickets from the forest service Nazi. Seems they dictate whatever they want for tickets these days. 2 rigs jacked on the first hill blocking the road and putting on chains. Friends decided to park and not wait on the pony show. When they returned had tickets for being illegally parked on the side of the road even though not blocking. Another snopark pass came unstuck from window sitting on dash and I guess if you truck is lifted he cant see it, but he was able to still put it under the wiper. Anyways just watch yourself up there they are on a revenue grab.

So did you get a ticket for illegally parked or did you not put the snowpark permit on the window or both? Lol those guys do great work up there enforcing and making decisions on the road. That road is full of politics and when it comes down to it you either put chains on and go or go home. Its a floating snowpark and they are up there early to make the decision to open it and they make the right one cause there have been much less wrecks and "pony" shows then years past.
Had to chime in when there's a beating like that.

Not sure about that one. Maybe there are more people chaining up as a precaution, and/or less people going up there as a result of the headaches involved sometimes. I saw people chain up last weekend when it was a dry, powdery snowpack - the best for traction. I am not sure I like people (FS) making the decision for me that possibly have no experience towing heavy trailers. A month ago they had the bypass open, it was a skating rink, and a lot of casualties that day.

I didn't personally get the tickets. Two different tickets to two different buddies. The floating sno-park is a joke. It changes throughout the day. Just like when the signs say no parking beyond this point or in the turn around, you drive up to a traffic jam and everyone is just parking on the side as they come up. Come back and go up to the turn around and pierce county sheriff and forest service are all parked in there and asking why you didn't turn around in place. Everything is dictated up there at their own convienance and for their revenue grab. Never heard of the sheriffs or forest service being decent or respectful to anyone up there, always giving off an attitude. Not sure why this is but I always thought they were public servants and if you were respectful they would be in turn, not the case in my own experience or most others.

I have had two run-ins with PC Sheriff's up there and have nothing good to say about them. The FS even stopped and stated he was with me, disagreeing with the Sheriff. " Some " let the control go to their heads.

I'm guessing...

It's best to just chain up before the Materhorn huh..??..

Is the snowpark & road plowed well enough for RVs..??..

Thanks...

You just have to feel out the traction of your rig on the 70 before you get there. If the road condition is questionable you don't want to be half way and loose traction. If you dont chain just get your momentum up before you hit the first grade and stay on it.

Not much room for RV's yesterday. Plowing was taking place when I left around 2:30. Really there was enough room in the turn around to do just that, then go park on the side of the road. It would be my guess, unless a big melt happens, trucks will be parking on the west side of the big hill. It was snowed in pretty good.

Parking and tickets

I guess when in doubt, and the cops arent around to ask, I'm not going to park anywhere questionable in Greenwater. I for one, dont want to support their wages and job security...(and quad trac modifications)
