So on the website for norse peak fire it was posted that the north area will be closed til dec 31 or until district manager deems ok for the forest to replentish its self, there is a 509 tel number for e.wash but for greenwater the Enumclaw number 360-825-6585 is listed so you can hear it for yourselves.
just making info avail even though it sucks.

Should open within the month

Just came back from the initial grooming meeting for the season and got updated word from the forest service people who where there. The December 31 date is from the existing closure order, but they plan on opening it up once they have all of the firefighting equipment out of the area. They are still cleaning up all the stuff they cut back along the 70 road when they made it the northern fire line. They are hoping to have it open by the end of the month.
It will probably be the last road to be opened in the area, but at least it shouldn't be closed until the end of the year.

Anyone been up there yet? Gotta be snow not too far up.

ya saw 1 sled track going over pyramid pass on 11/6/17 towing my sled over to ravens roost since chinook was closed, but could have rode sled yesterday morning all the way but snow was getting sketchy on lwr road.
about a foot deep about where cabin is, this is my earliest start enjoy the photos, I got into 18 in deep powder but no base, gotta watch out for rocks, maybe that is why I used my loaner sled yesterday. never saw another rig till east side and then coming back but nothing on pyramid pass.
could have started at uppr gravel pit pretty easy.

Anyone been up? Looking to clock some trail miles to start breaking in the new sled! Want to be ready for the powder when it hits!

was up last Monday morning and could have rode along ways but a lot of powder and rocks were there under snow. took it easy but I used older sled, however the weather forcast looks great for next week and I believe there s/b 18 plus inches in meddow by next Saturday if weather man is right.
was about 1 foot where cabin was on Monday (pyramid pass) but I towed over because lwr road can be bare this time of year, the rain we are getting today should help make a good base where those rocks shouldn't be so bad for a new sled.
still did over 20 miles and was earliest by 3 weeks I have done in 8 years.

Thinking about heading up there this week. I know you turn left into forest service road 70 from 410 then just drive until you find snow? Haha

I’ve never been out here before.

Yes turn on the 70 road and go until there is a gate. The forest service will Close and open gates as snow level changes. Drive slow, take your time and take chains(never needed chains but always carry them). Road can be REALLY nasty. I've seen a bunch of dumda**es driving too fast. Sucked for them and made an expensive long day for them....

I am thinking about thur morning as snow will slow down a bit by then, in case you want someone to meet up with to show you around a bit, looks like lots of new snow so bet a lot will be finding their way up there maybe a few still up there, could be a few trees down right now as a week ago a lot of trees were sagging be sure to bring saw.

there wasn't enough snow yet to close gate and it is the only way to get over to whistling jacks by jeep so fs probably doesn't want to close it yet till first grooming, but yes take it easy and carry chains if you go past gate there are some 12% grades a few places and lots of corners.
if it cools down a little bit more will snow in lwr elev also but most snow has been falling from 4,000 ft and up. gate is about 2,400 I believe and snowpark gate 3,500 ft.

I actually went up there 2 weekends ago, we found the first of the snow (ice actually) and were greeted in a collision with an F-150 sliding down into us. It was a cluster f&$k, then the gal got stuck in the ditch blocking everyone in...

I bought a nice set of v-link chains, just to have.... I’d rather spend $150 to have chains and not need them, than need them and not have them. No sense in hammering up $50k truck and $25k sleds over trying to save a few bucks.

I’m not sure where any of the gates are but from what I’ve been reading, snow appears to be gathering at the 4,000’ level.

Good insight on the chain saw, I never even thought of that plus I’m sure there are some downed trees with all this wind...

with the wind ya bring a saw, also same thing usually don't have to chain my truck up either and carry 4 chains as had to use all 4 last year to get over pyamid pass with the dually and 2 sleds on the back of it to get over to ravens roost area since chinook pass closed last year before thanksgiving also. going to try and load vid of snow 1 week ago Monday. well so much for vid it wouldn't take.

This is why I've always balked at going to Greenwater every season.

I want to explore the area, see some new trails, etc...but I always hear the stories of how many goons go up there, breaking into vehicles at lower parking, people driving the upper areas and jackknifing, etc, etc...

Sounds like an area to avoid...dunno?
