Yampa, Colo. July 17, 2008) – A mountain biker who illegally trespassed in the Sarvis Creek Wilderness June 26 was issued a ticket last week by Acting Yampa District Ranger Josh Voorhis. The Wilderness Act of 1964 states that there shall be "no use of motor vehicles, motorized equipment … or other form of mechanical transport..." in designated Wilderness areas.

"He rode right by the entry sign at the wilderness boundary," said Voorhis. "The sign clearly indicates that no motorized or mechanized vehicles are allowed."

The man subsequently became lost, spent the night in the forest, walked out and called Routt County Search and Rescue. "He has the option of paying a $500 fine, plus $25 administration costs, or he can go to court," Voorhis said. The fine for vehicle intrusions in wilderness recently increased in Colorado from $50 to $500. The maximum penalty for this offense is a $5,000 fine and six months in jail.

I have a Mountain Bike....Does that make me a Greenie? :confused:

While I'd love to believe that this was an officer in the sierra club, It could have been a fellow sledder????

why is he a greenie because he has a mountain bike?

I think it's horse **** you can't mountain bike in wilderness areas even ...

Yet you're allowed to ski? That's a form of mechanical transport :rolleyes:

ok I am not sure he is a greenie, but I like to think so!

my take on this; have the twig pigs write up a mtn biker for using a resource:rolleyes: sledders say "Right on, bust his azz; he's a greenie!!"

now we have one more group/possible ally in the fight for our "public lands" thinking we are dinks. We need to use this to show how stupid these laws really are!!

Backcountry horsemen are next- they just pick us off one group at a time:mad:

no offence meant to the thread starter, just trying to make a point:beer;

The Idaho Mountain Bikers are united with sledders to stop more wilderness. There are some mountain bikers that believe in more wilderness, but you might question if there really mountain bikers, or greenies that ride mountain bikes.

But, it's been fun listening to mountain bikers ***** about wilderness. Their getting very upset, seems they're getting kicked off trails (outside of the wilderness) about as fast as we are.

Their welcome to join us, maybe when everyone but hikers is kicked out, things will change. And, skiers just think their safe, their day's coming.

yes everyone who wants to be able to go out to the bush at all should get on this together, when it all comes down to it we all crap and thats what they're trying to argue horses are doing out there that's bad for the environment. Couldn't believe it when my dad told me that, Wilmore wilderness park near grande cache wants farmers to change their feed a week prior to riding there because of grass seed contained in horse poop. They've totally lost their minds, and they're just as bad as the rest of us for polluting and using resources. All these people want is to control other peoples lives, most anoying thing on earth.
