BACKCOUNTRY SLED PATRIOTS AND TEAM LOCHSA

This is a one time opportunity to ride some of the most spectacular and challenging backcountry in the US with some of the best backcountry riders in the US including Keith Curtis (Jackson Hole King of Kings), Crockett brothers, and Jon Norman and other RMSHA riders. Frostbytes film LLC crew will video the whole ride that will be edited and put on DVD. One guide assigned to each group of 7-8 riders. Each rider must have a beacon, shovel and probe, plus good backcountry riding skills.

The ride will leave the Lochsa Lodge (approx. 45 miles west of Lolo Mt.) at 9:00, March 29/14. Be on site by 8:30 to register. A dinner will be served at a facility near the Lodge at 6:30 PM. Free adult beverage. Backcountry Sled Patriots, www.sledpatriots.com , mission is to focus solely on keeping backcountry riding areas open including the Great Burn in the Clearwater National Forest (198,000 acres).

Suggested donation: $50:00 for the ride only. For ride, plus dinner, adult beverage and a chance at a $500.00 door prize: $75.00. All donations will go to the Backcountry Sled Patriots Legal Fund.

Discounted rooms are available at the Lochsa Lodge 208 942 3405 and the Lolo Hot Springs lodge 406 273 2201. Additional lodging is available in Lolo and Missoula.

Please confirm your participation by March 22/14 with Stan Spencer 406 544 0144 or email stanspencer@montana.com. We are limiting the ride to 60 riders in order to provide a high end experience for everyone.

The location for this is near Missoula, MT.

Still open to over snow travel at this time. The word has been that the area will close as soon as a detailed map of the area showing the boundary of the closure is printed and available to the public.
This area is some of the best the lower 48 has to offer when it comes to back country riding.

Didn't the travel plan go through? Thought the Great Burn was closed to over the snow travel now.

The area was tecnically closed through the 2012 travel plan. Winter use travel maps have not been published so enforcement is not possible. I met with the FS in Orofino on Sat. for clarification. Maps are "at the printer" but the policy for enforcement of the eventual closure will be "soft" at the onset. They have agreed with the FS enforcement arm to issue warnings instead of tickets for one year. However if anyone wants to be obnoxious when getting a warning they will reserve the right to issue a ticket.
Backcountry Slep Patriots, Team Lochsa, and Idaho State Snowmobile ***'n. are working hard to reverse this closure through the current Collaborative Forest Plan revision underway. ISSA filed a lawsuit in 2012 contesting the travel plan. Lawsuit is sitting on a Federal Judge desk. BSP is raising money for it's legal fund in case further litigation becomes necessary.

The following pictures were taken south of this point. Williams Peak/Lake area is the backside of the VERY south of this and right.

This was illegally taken away from us because of an agency and frivolous lawsuits...NOT by an Act of Congress, which is the only way this can be taken away.
