grass drags?

Our grass drag circuit has pretty much died in the last couple years...I just sold my laydown chassis since it never gets used anymore. Rumor was they are looking for someone to take over organizing events in the state? as far as I know, the only event they put on last year was the race in Idaho. Its a shame, really a lot of inexpensive fun for a lot of people.

curt,

what about you (fasttrax) putting something on. would get you some good exposure?
really would like to race Al and his m1000 aginst mine.

i rode the yami down the street got the bug need to ride.

I've seen what is involved with putting on one race....let alone a series and it is pretty much a full time job keeping all involved happy(racers, sponsors, insurance, land owners etc)and securing/prepping a race site. Then you need to do a little promotional work to get enough people to show up and pay entry fees to pay for it all. I think a lack of time to commit to the races has caused the demise. I have to admit that there is no way I could do it with everything else I have going on between work, family and the racing we do, as much as I would like to!There has been talk recently of a local hillclimb also(up on Snoqualmie) but no one so far can commit the huge amounts of time involved.

We need a person with unlimited time and connections who's willing to do a thankless job for no thanks....any takers?

I use to go to the drags and it was fun.
I was part of the Utah currcit and it was big but know it is gone too.
I feel it can come back if we can find some people that will let us use there land for free. So the cost of the track is down. It would have to be on the east side of the mountains because of the more open space.
I would be willing to help in any way just not going to do it by myself.
If anybody else would like to get this going we can get together and put ideas together. Let try to make it happen. At least one race this year.

By the looks of this thread being dead.
there is no one out there that whats to do grass drags in washington.
SAD SAD JUST SAD all talk no go

Or people are hoping to see more info, heck I was watching the grass drags at the packwood airport since I was little. We did not even sled in my family but we went and now that I sled I would love to go out with my family and romp on my toys.

Why does it have to be some huge deal, if there was a forum member or a freind to one with a field we could use... Charge the racers 5 bucks or something and go seat of the pants, all entrance fees go to a porta craper and the land owner. The trick is to keep the land owners happy, no trash left behind or things getting busted or going missing.

Heck two maybe three events a summer would be cool, get together and take the edge of the sleding bug for a couple weeks then maybe a BBQ after. Couple acres, stopwatches and a clip board and we could go from there.

I grass raced for a few years and had a blast! IMO some factors that caused it to fade away were cost. Such as rising insurance rates and any fees charged by the land owner. After awhile it got pretty expensive to hold an event.
It was also getting harder to find suitable sites to hold a race. Many land owners did not want to take on the risk.
Man power, usually it was the same core group of people doing most of the work. My hats off to them, its a lot of work to put it all together. They have jobs and families just like the rest of us. I'm sure after awhile they just got tried of it all and decided to move on to something else.
Attendance seemed to really drop off the last year I raced also. Not sure if it was the expense of racing or lack of interest. With only a few racers in class its not as much fun. The more sleds you can have in a class, the more exciting it is.
These things seem to go in cycles, maybe grass drags will catch on again. I kept my cooling cart and some other stuff, just in case it does!

Pretty much sums it up. Keep the cooling cart, should be more to come in future.

It would seem to me that the local clubs should be sponsoring something like this. first you spread out the responsibilities and it helps promote the club and the sport, which the club needs people in the sport to grow.

If just one person tries to do it, then it would be too much, but a club with, what do they have 30 people, should be able to spread the wealth of duties.

I would think the same thing about a hill climb or snow cross event.

Any help

I'm willing to do 80% of the leg work.
We just need a place to put it on.
If anybody has an idea or a place to do this please let me know.

We have always been willing to help out. This is the first year we haven't been contacted to run any races on grass. Places to hold events are one of the biggest problems along with dealing with insurance issues. Let me know.

Thanks

Thank you for your support and I'll do my best to keep looking I have been asking alot of people for use of there lad but it is hard when there trying to get there crops done for the year.
I will keep you in the loop if anything looks good.

Mike
