Me and a few buddies are thinking of heading to Grand Lake over the first week of January. Just checking to see what the snow conditions are usually like out there. Also what kinda night life do they have out there and is the terrain pretty good? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks alot

Snow is decent, new years there is night life otherwise it is small town shenannigans. Terrain is all u can handle, high avalanche risk. I might not be going this year for that week so u can rent one of my cabins... pm me for info. Out

Take your own entertainment. Lots of good places to stay as when we go without the family we stay at the Gateway Inn. Good rooms,service and a bar with good food. Real nice people. As far as the snow goes who knows what it will be like by then but it is usually great. I would go after New Years,lots of traffic, and the higher up in the mountain you go the smoother the trails will usually be >>>>.

Hi everyone- New to the forum. My wife and I will be in GL Feb 13-16th. Rabbit Ears on 17th. Steamboat Lake Outfitters 18-20th. Average back country riders. Both riding 2010 M8 153's. Looking for input on riding areas and if anyone on the board would like to guide for a day or two? Just a couple of beer drinkers from Wisconsin that sell fireworks! Anyways, glad to be here. http://bigfireworksoutlet.com

So was that like an all-out threadjack or just a partial??

:rolleyes:

GL is 9-10 times great from mid-Nov to March.....the trails down low may get a bit sticky and slushy (8,500 ft) but rest assure you can find the POW all season long once above 9,500ft or so.

Night life is hit and miss, sit at the GL Brewery for a few hrs and you're sure to find what's going on in town for your stay.....never a lack of beer flowin in the Winter! Mainstreet may look dead at 9pm....but there's still plenty going on.

:beer;:beer;

In GL, try renting a cabin instead of a hotel room......there's lots to choose from, and rates are reasonable. Lots more fun than just a room, especially in GL. Try looking in Columbine Lake as it's closer to the trailhead than town, and you can drive your sled right from there. Fireworkswi......I'd love to guide a fellow cheesehead, but you've got a way better sled than me, so you're on your own!! (can't risk getting school'd in my own backyard) :-)

Yeah we stay at Columbine Lake when we take the family or a large group. Very nice scenery up there. You gotta go check out the dog at the bar too >>>>.

Hey thanks up LabRat. We are located right across the river from mpls/st.paul. If anyone has a link or two for lodging in Columbine let me know or if there is an old thread with same topic.

Contact Bdubs from above about lodging, his cabins are sweet & they're right on the trail. He's a good guy to deal with as well.

Looking like we are heading down there 2nd-6th. Staying in a 12 person or so cabin. So other than the brewery on main is there any bars or anything like that to shoot the breeze at or BS with some other riders from around?
