GPS Questions????

Looking at getting a Garmin Rino 650 and had a couple questions for the experts on these things.

I guess first off, is it worth purchasing the topo maps that are available or any other mapping upgrade?

I’m not sure if I want to mount it to the sled or not any pros or cons on that?

I was actually thinking about maybe trying a shoulder mic set up and either mount the GPS to the outside of my pack or just try putting in the pack. Any thoughts or ideas on this?

Anyone else try any of the ear piece / mic combos that are available?

Thanks

Yes you need the topo IMO. Many good sled mounts out there. Carry mine in my riser block bag now after losing one.

I don't have a rhino, but a GPSMap62s. You gotta have the extra topo maps, and bird's eye imagery is a big plus in my opinion. I keep mine in my pocket and only pull it out as needed.

Additional question for Rhino guys, to see where others in your group are do they have to key the mic? I thought I read this about them a while ago, but am not 100% sure. I'm just thinking of a scenerio where someone is hurt, we don't know where they are at, and they are unable to key the mic. Sure would be nice to see them on the map and go help. Tracking someone continuously real time on a map would be not only handy but potentially a life saver.
