Couldn't find much info on here or the old forum so,

What are you using for your hand held GPS?

Where to buy?

What type of software do you use?

I am also concerned about battery life and how well the screen can be viewed. I am looking at the Rino 530Hcx since a couple guys have them already, but we haven't had a chance to use them.

Been running a Garmin 276C for four years and it's powered off the sled (the internal GPS battery is good for 8+ hours). Just got a second 276C for my back-up sled >>> here <<<

Using a 512 MB memory card with the 2008 Topo map.

Just bought a 530Hcx. Absolutely love this thing, much easier to view than my previous 130. Was impressed with the battery life, used it 2 days last weekend and still had 56% when started recharge. Bought it from Amazon.com, $376 and a RAM mount for about $30.

For topo maps you pretty much have to use the Garmin Topo software. They are not official USGS maps and don't have the detail that the USGS do but they're not that bad. loaded about 1/3 of the Alaska topos and only took up 15Mb of my 2Gb card.
