Got spanked today... M1000 only hitting 6,800-7,100 RPMS???

We got epic snowfall in the last week, and we rode hard today. I bent by stock pipe in an unfortunate tree incident weeks back, and had a new stock pipe put on today, and sled just felt "off." Power band seemed lackluster, and only pulled 6,800 RPMS on a hard climb, and 7-7,100 on a hard pack hammer down run. Belt was a little "iffy" (046), so I put on my spare (060). Didn't seem to make a bit of difference. I got stuck constantly, and got outclimbed by a D8 155 in 3 feet of fresh powder, with my 162 Power Claw... NOT RIGHT! Brought it to the dealership, and he couldn't find anything wrong with it other than he said my 046 was about shot. Put a new one on, and I will give it a go tomorrow again. Anyone had this out of the blue problem before... clutches looked good, air box looked good... any ideas?

Well, even on the hard pack flat trail I could only get 7,100. It was definately "off" compared to normal...

What were your RRRRRRs before everything went south?

Are your power valves opening?

Fuel oaky?

You should be spanking that D8, unless it has a 90 pound rider.

Something is definately amiss

Mechanic says the powervalves are opening just fine. I know I should do ATLEAST as good as the D8, and usually do a little better than them. I had a cord showing on the belt, and that is all he could think of. He said that since I went from a worn 046 to an new 060, and it didn't make a difference it must be the belt. He hates the 060 for our altitude, and says they are junk. He said he has climbed a hill with his m1 and an 046, then switched belts, and can't even poach his own track to the top with the 060. Hopefully the belt will make all the difference, but I am skeptical. Sled absolutely rips when it is spot on, but it felt like an M6 today.

Well that sucks, I stomped my buddies poo poo all day today but I was also down on "R"s with my 1000
The 046 should give you more "R"s then the 060,try it again tomarrow and if you still have a problem I would start pulling off the clutches and check them out.

sounds like the same problem I'm having! but my problem started with their stupid update/reflash, so you should see if the dealer did this reflash, and if they did, you are screwed!! the only thing I can do is buy a fuel controller to correct their update/screw-up.

if they haven't done the update, check the little hose/tube that comes from your ECU to see if it is plugged (this measures air density), but don't try to take it off as it will break. check plugs, measure power valve cables, and check to see that the pipe is sealed.

I RIDE 9/11000FT m1000,TURN 7700/7800RPMS. 68WTS,TAN d&d SPRING IN PRIMARY CLUTCH. STOCK 36 HELIX AND SPRING. d&d PIPE,CAN,BOONDOCKER,SET VERY LEAN 046 BELT. Runs Great.

Got it figured out. A new 046 today, and it runs like a raped ape again... too bad the snow set up overnight so I couldn't stomp the poo poo like it deserved!

Bad belts?

Glad to hear your up and running. Not sure why they send these M10's out with the 60's on them. They're not right belt for WY and the snow we run in. Don't think they hold up as well either. Rode my buddies M10 the other day, just going down a little hill and the belt just came apart.... Have read all these posts about trying to get your clutches lined up and whatever and I'm thinking maybe Cat has issues with the belts. $120 should buy you at least a season on your sled. I switched to the 046 after reading you'd get more RPM and have about 600 miles on it. Might be time to look for other belts.

I've blown 3 46 belt to shreads and only about 120 miles on all of them, and even with a clutching bog the 060 gets me farther up a hill and pulls harder in a drag race, you have to clutch to the belt you run. The 60 is smoother and the least amount of miles I have on a 60 before pulling cords is 350 miles and haven't blown one yet.

Belts

The 046 slips more than the 060 and gets hotter. Best thing is vents to keep clutches and belts cool. I also will swap belts out to keep them cool.
