Got a sled deck, have some q's?

So I got a sled deck for a damn good deal. Home made, steel, probably weighs around 300 lbs. Its going in my 04' Chevy 3/4 ton w/ airbags.

Anyways the deck has 1 by 1 square tubing on the base of it for sitting in the bed of the truck, running front to back of the bed just inside of the wheel wells.

I have the plastic chevy bedliner in right now and dont really want to get rid of it. I am just wondering if you think having two 600 pound sleds on the deck will dent the bed.

Also, will holding it down with 325 lb turnbuckles in the four courners of the bed, and 1 in the middle to the gooseneck hitchplate be enough?

My math came out at:
sled deck- 300 lbs
2 sleds-600 lbs max each? so 1200 lbs total in sleds
1500 lbs total deck and sleds together

5 turnbuckles-325 lb each to hold it all down-1625 lbs total

Thanks Guys!:beer;

i have a home made sled deck thats about 500 lb. with 1 1/2 in. angle along the bottom each side front to back connecting the legs. a 10 ft. steel ramp ( at least 100 lb.) that sides in through the beaver tail. i use 4 turnbuckles that go down to my frame mount camper tiedowns and i've hauled 2 sleds for the past 3 yrs. i havent dented my bed floor but i drive a ford:eek: jk. but i have dented the front of my bed from hitting the ramp a little hard when it was 8 ft. and plywood for the skis and no beaver tail and stopping fast up on top of the deck. now with the beaver tail, 10 ft. ramp, and plastic ski guides no more high speed runs required to load.

check your regs at the dmv , weigh your truck at a scale empty, this will tell you how much your truck is rated to carry.deck 300 lbs seems a little lite for steel as aluminum is around 300 to 400 lbs. anyway your truck will be top heavy, so over engineer the tie down part, as you don't want to see your sleds rolling on the highway, during an emergency move. yes it will happen and buy rated shackles and hardware for strength. if you think it may come out it probably will. floor should be fine, box tie downs ? not much holding them there.

be safe not sorry.

update

had a buddy that runs a welding and fab shop hooked me up today

he made steel plates with d rings that bolth through the bed in the four corners, they bold to the frame underneath the bed

they will be good for all sorts of stuff, hauling just about anything

so now all i need are some good turnbuckles or heavy duty straps and im good to go, i will post pics when i can

thanks for the help again

I have a plastic liner in my truck and it really hasn't been an issue other then that it sucks getting to the box hooks to strap it down but that may just be mine. but the liner has never flatened out or anything.

You can run of the factory tie downs with no issues at all, Have so for yrs. We use to put camper tie downs on but they were more problems than good. plastic box liner is not a problem, just make sure you tighten tunbuckles with sleds on the deck because they compress a little from the weight of the sleds. Also put a 5ft 2by4 or something in front of it so that it doesn't hit on the upper rail of the box. If it does it WILL bend your box. Make sure the uprights of the deck are in good condition also because if you do lots of logging roads they may break (broke mine numerous times, have them all doubled with braces now). You will love the sleddeck way more versitile than a trailer. I also have a 28ft enclosed and rarely use it because of all the hassles. Do love the space in it though when I do use it. hope this helps
