GoPro footage editing/ converting?

i downloaded the latest free microsoft video editor and cant edit my gopro video. i heard i have to convert my video from MP4 to wmv. does anyone know of a free converter program?

I downloaded 'Any Video Convertor' off one of the free sites. My Vista came with Windows Movie Maker and Power Director editing software. Power Director seems a bit more detailed, but neither will accept the .mp4 file that comes off the GoPro. .wmv files work for either program and someone told me in another post they just re-convert the file to .mp4 after they edit it to upload it in HD on YouTube. I would like to get Final Cut or another good program, just don't have time to learn all that stuff.

mp4cam 2 avi just google it, defineately easiest to use and super fast... can even get rid of the audio b4 you convert, batch convert works when you have 20 different vids, you just press a button it converts them all works great!
