Good way to Remove Head?

I did a search, but I could not find it. It seems that some people knew a crafty way to remove an M8 head without draining the coolant system and not getting coolant in thee bottom end or all over the place...If you can remind me I would appreciate it.

I take take the little rubber hose off the head. Then I blow compressed air in the little hole on the head where the line was attached. I put the line I took off and the coolant overflow in a bottle to collect the coolant.

i just take the 2 lower bolts out of the head closest to the steering post and take a shop vac and suck out the coolant out of the cylinders before i even remove the head

I have a sm shop vac I use just for coolant.I stick a sm hose in coolant tank that is stuck in to shop vac hose with a rag and duct tape.turn on shop vac it will suck out coolant.if you are also pulling jugs plug top of coolant bottle and it will suck most of coolant out.verry clean and EZ

I bought a coolant gauge, threaded in a petcock valve and installed it on the lowest hose on my 06 this summer. Easily accessibile from the exhaust side and should drain easily enough assuming the front end it higher than the rear. SHOULD work good....at least I think it will.....I'll see if I can get some pics of it tonight.

i would also check the hose the likkerpig put the t in. mine had rubbed half way through on the bottom of the motor.

If you are doing this often they make a pump for changing oil in boats that is a vac pump. It can suck gas to oil to antifreeze. Just sucked out my oil resivor to change oil types, not a drop left in the tank. Pump holds about 1.5 gal, works great but costs about 70-80 bucks. You just stick the hose into what you want to remove and pump the handle, it creates a vacume to suck it dry. Dont need to screw up your wet/dry plus can remove flamables.
Best tool i have in my garage, use it for everything, get it at a boat parts store or at barts or overtons boating both online stores.

^^ that's a great way of doing it too. My plan was to elevate the front end above the rear, drain, and get to work vs. having to drain the whole system. I think I have about 30.00 into the water temp fitting and the adapters.
