I live in IL and ride out west twice a year. I do a lot riding in the UP of Michigan (which got 300+ inches of snow last season) and get out west when I can. I'm getting married next summer and on a limited budget this season.

Can anyone suggest a place other than the Snowies, Rabbit Ears, or Vail that is worth visiting and not too expensive. Somewhere we can ride from the cabin/motel. We were thinking Togwotee but it is pretty expensive compared to everywhere else we've been. We'll have 4 guys in our group. I'm thinking Cooke since it was cheap the last time I was there. Bars and restaurants aren't as important as we can cook and bring beer.

We're thinking somewhere in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, or eastern Idaho or Utah.

if you want to come over to idaho, McCall would be a great place... you cant exactly ride from your cabin but you only trailer about 10 minutes, and from the parking lot you are less than 3 miles of road riding til the fun begins. hotels are CHEAP, super8 has snowmobiler discounts and the shore lodge you can get a FANCY room for around $100 a night. Foods great and the riding is top notch.

You can save money riding at Togwotee if you stay at Lava Mtn Lodge or stay in Dubois and trailer up every day.

I hate trailering back and forth with an open trailer. I guess if the riding is worth it I wouldn't mind.

togwotee is definatly a good choice. we always trailer up from dubois. its about a half hour or so up to the pass but typically good road. we normally stay at the super 8 there and its real good price in my opinion

The big horns would be you shortest drive we stay at bear lodge there. we go to west yellowstone every year for new years and stay at the days inn if you go to price line.com it cost us 50
dollars
a night last year. and that comes with two free breakfast every day. they have two hot tubs and pool. its chep staying there if you skip the night life.

2 votes for Bear lodge in north bighorns. About $90+tax. Its close to an hour to stay at Sheridan. Plus, if it snows heavy they will close the road. Worth it to stay on top.

Cooke would be my choice. The big horns are fun, but not really in the same class as cooke city.

Not sure how much rooms are but eating etc doesn't seem to be that expensive. I think though if you are planning to go during the peak months you migh want to get rooms soon. You can also ride up to top of the world if you get bored or things get tracked up.

Alpine Wyoming. We go every February and stay for a week. You can head up Gray's River in Wy, or go up McCoy Creek in Idaho all from Alpine. We stay at the Flying Saddle and they have a hot tub and swimming pool and bar. Park in front of your room and ride from there!! :beer;

Hey cuzz we are looking into Steamboat Lake Outfiiters in Jan for a day or 2 then Ears and maybe Vail. Hope Carl(zrt4me) can make it also just gonna try something besides the snowies and the horns. Rooms at SLO are $89.

Wouldn't recommend vail.... lots of idiots out there. If you're going to drive, drive somewhere worth riding.

big horns not worth it, unless thats all you can afford. Cooke and McCall both a choice, but I haven't been to many other places because I lived close to both.
Both will also make a diff if you ride with someone that knows where to ride.

2 Plus, if it snows heavy they will close the road. Worth it to stay on top.

bwhahaha.. I love it when there is 5-10 rigs at the bottom waiting for them to open it.. and we go blowing by.. you can see every rig there point and fire up the engine.. and pull in a few minutes behind us.. haha

Grand Mesa if you can hit it between Feb15 and March15

(those seem to be the dates I've had the best luck with good conditions there)
