This is an email sent out from CSA in regards to the Winter Wildlands Alliance.

Good morning,
As many of you know Scott Jones (new CSA Vice President), Karen Ball (CSA Secretary) and I are in Washington DC attending the American Council of Snowmobile Associations annual Tell the Truth About Snowmobiling DC Fly-In. During our morning session of speakers today we were privileged to hear from Deputy Chief of the Forest Service, Joel Holtrop. He announced that on Friday afternoon the Forest Service sent a response to the Winter Wildlands Alliance and their 80 or so co-signers regarding their petition to the Forest Service to alter the Travel Management Rule to mandate designated trails and areas for over the snow travel. It is with great delight that I am passing on that response. THE FOREST SERVICE WILL NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO THE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT RULE TO ACCOMODATE THEIR REQUEST!. In other words, nothing is going to change from the original mandates of the Travel Management Rule. Recognizing that the Travel Management Rule does allow for Winter Travel Management if and when an individual forest feels the need to, they will be offering criteria to those forest supervisors to conduct this type of travel management.
As I am sure you can understand the room broke into spontaneous applause. We of course can't let our guard down because this will embolden quiet use groups to work in smaller, more local areas but at this point the Forest Service is protecting the Travel Management Rule in its current form.
