golden vs fernie

hey guys.. just wondering which is the better place to ride... golden or fernie? looking for a trip in february...any one recommend some where good to stay...

generally speaking, golden is a better place to ride, not always but, usually. there are several spots around town to ride, and lots of guys to show you around usually. a good place to stay is the golden rim. here is a link to the snowmobile golden site!

Fernie is a much easier driver from Calgary as the roads are usually better. Fernie has more tree riding then Golden in my opinion and is more avalanche safe.

Depends where you are coming from, if your riding with someone who knows the area and the kind of riding you like.

Golden is the better area imo, for two reasons 1. It generally has more snow than Fernie and 2. It has way bigger climbs. Fernie is the better area to take the family for a ride.

It all depends. I lived in Golden and the area generally gets more snow, especially this year. More tree riding in the Fernie area and less people. In Golden there ia only a little tree riding opportunity in Quartz and basically none in Gorman. Some tree riding in Silent and none in Silver Mines. If it is snowing during your trip Fernie is better. As for climbs, there are places with climbs in Fernie and if you can find a local or hire a guide then your set for go times without the crowds.

I've sledded Fernie and Golden a fair amount and both are great. It depends on your preference. Highmarking or boondocking???

james i can show you some spots in fernie that you might not want to take your family to.

Still think it's for family rides only after what happened down in Harvey Creek ?

Stuff like that unfourtunately happens in any area with alpine riding. I don't think you can condemn any area for accidents. But I know of more deaths in Fernie than I do in Golden. My condolences to the friends and families of all of our lost riders.
