gold primary spring for stock M7?

I have a stock ’06 M7 engine turning a ported 162 camo extreme track. I’m trying to get the RPMs up a bit and improve the clutching and responsiveness. I’m putting in a shift assist and a Cat orange secondary spring.

For those that have tried both, is the Cat gold primary spring worth switching to as compare to the stock primary spring?

Not sure what your stock pri spring is, on my m1000 it was a yellow white and the gold dropped the engagement way down but the finish was about the same, not sure if the m7 will have the bottom end to pull that low of engagement or that you will gain any rpm up top.

Use the search to look for spring charts to compare the rates, should get you started

Yup, I know several guys ride with the orange secondary spring with the Gold up front. Engagement will drop to around 3600-3800 rpm. Makes it butter smooth!!! The orange in the back is tough to get put back together, but works well. Good luck.

You will probably lose some top end with the Gold. If you want a lower engagement but the same top end go with the Polaris Gold Primary. It's a 100/285 vs. a 75/275

The gold has the same finish as the stock yellow white so the only thing that should be different is the low engagement at like around 3200rpms. With the gold spring being so soft on the bottom it feels pretty snappy once you get it movin. I didn't like the having the engagement that low, couldn't get enough snap from a stop in sticky situations.

Actually the gold has a lower finish than the yellow/white.

At arctic cat specs:
Gold= 75-275
White= 122-285

Thus putting in the gold will lower your max RPMs. I tried the gold in my '05 M7 per some recommendations I recieved but hated it. If I needed to get on the throttle in a tight spot, I was way below the power I needed and it caused me trouble. And by seat of the pants I swear it took a bunch of the top end out of my sled. I took the yellow/white with me and when I put it back in it was like all my power was returned. Couldn't get rid of that spring fast enough. I know some people really like that spring, but for the way I like to ride it took the fun out of it for me.

Getting the orange spring and shift assist is a big step in the right direction, if you want to increase your RPMs a bit, either go to the next size lighter cat weights, or get a higher finish rate Primary spring.

Hope this helps

I tried to order some glide washers but was told they are discontinued. Mike where did you get yours?

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll keep the stock for now and see how it does with the orange secondary.

Sheesh, I swear, clutching is like a religious discussion :)

Don't drink... it might lead to dancing.

use a cat orange white it will rise engagment and higher top rpm the m-7 seems alittle better with the higher engagment

X2 on hating the gold spring on an M7. Didn't like the low engagement in tight situations. May work well on a sled with more power like a M1000.

I put all 5 washers in from HPE and still couldn't get top RPMs back. If you like the low engagement I would try the Polaris gold.

I will sell the one i have for $20 shipped to the US. Probably has 50 miles on it. Send me a PM and we can figure it out.

Ok, see so many rates its hard to keep track. It's snappy once movin but I really didn't like it putting around slow through the trees. I just picked up a orange black to try out, see how that works.
