Going to Togwotee, need some professional guidance!

Heading to Tog this week for a family trip. Three like to play in the pow, three like to ride the trails. Any advice on where to go where we see the best the trails have to offer, and can get some good powder riding in on the side. We're a bunch of "flatlanders" from MN, not looking for the super steep, just some nice boondocking off of good scenic trails. We'll be there for 4 days of riding. Any input would be sweet!!!

Get a Map

Maps of CD trail system should be available everywhere, every major intersection will have a map posted so its easy to keep track of where you are.
When you go off trail, be careful when the visibility is not good, there are holes and creeks everywhere.
Not trying to scare, but be careful off trail.
You are going to love sleding in Tog area. The down side is you wont want to ride in MN after you get spoiled in WY.

Riding in Togwotee.

I guess I should have said that I've ridden there before, and I have a map. The last time I was there we spent most of the time on the Angle Mt. side of the road, and playing of trail to the south of Tog. but we didn't venture to far away. I want to find out what are the best trails for the trail riders in our group, and if there are decent play areas along those trails. Trying to find where to ride where we can go as a group and everyone will have fun. Thanks to all with info.

if ur riding the trails try lava mountain to the top ,or do animal looking in gros vente area goosewing is gr8 for lunch. all the trails are nice, use a guide from togwotee if you want the best fun boondockin a flatlander can handle. ps drink lots of h2o

TreeKiller,
I just got back to MN from Tog Lodge after being there Jan.5-11. Yes Goosewing Ranch WAS a good place for lunch and topping off gas, but both Goosewing AND Hatchet are closed this winter. :( The trail grooming was hit and miss this year. (This was our 5th year in a row at the Tog Lodge. Worst trail condition I've experienced there.

And before everyone starts flaming me for that comment, I don't expect them to be "glass smooth", but creeping along on a trail that likely hadn't been groomed this season is disgusting. We used to brag about NEVER riding a bad trail there, in past years.
We ran into poorly marked trails, and some with the 10-15m.p.h. whoop-de-doo deep moguls for several miles.
There apparently some "political problems" there regarding grooming this year. There have been other posts on this forum regarding that issue.

Maybe they have taken steps to improve the situation since last week. Let's hope so.

advice

Get on the trail system that takes you around the back of Mt. Leidy, less people, lots of creek drainages with deep snow. Avoid Angle and Breccia cliffs on a weekend.

My buddy lives up there, pm me I'll give you his number and he rides that area quite a bit. He just recently bought a place in star valley, but has not moved there from Jackson yet. Let me know when, unless I just missed that in your thread.

sorry you had bumpy trails, the hatchet's been closed for years now except for gas sometimes, goosewing is usually a 50-50 depending on snow, good for lunch though.maybe should have headed towards brooks and lava mtn area. most people who go to togwotee dont ride the trails its the off trail riding thats usually the best part.maybe id suggest a yellowstone tour to old faithful. happy trails, treekiller
