Going to Cooke-March 12-17

Leaving Fort Collins Tuesday, march 12th at 2:00 pm and driving to Cooke. Coming back Sunday, march 17th. Right now, I have three slots in my trailer. Any takers?

Costs depend on how many occupants.

GAS: It's 500 miles each way. My pickup gets 10-14 MPG pulling my trailer, depending on wind. Figure diesel at $4.50 (to be safe, i think it's at around $4.19 right now), so that's $350-450 in fuel. Usually, I end up filling the trailer, so around $100 a piece, or less.

LODGING: There is a large group of people meeting up in Cooke. Some of us have rented cabins, but they are full. Bearclaw has rooms for around $85 each, and that's the route I'd go. I think they come with 2 beds, and I'm sure you'd be able to find people to bunk up, if you wanted to save some $.

SLED GAS: Generally we go through an entire tank, maybe 2 on some days. Gas in Cooke is about $0.50 more per gallon than in Denver. We can haul oil in or buy it up there.

FOOD: Breakfast - figure 5-8$ per day. Lunch - I usually stop at WalMart in Cody and pickup some brats and other lunch items. We usually make a fire and eat as a group. Some days, we might buzz back into town (because it's so close). Supper - with a group, we usually eat at the Miners, and split pizzas or whatever, figure no more than $15 per night

BEER: This is on you. We can haul beer in, or buy it up there. It's easier just to buy it up there and not much more expensive. Usually, we have some beers in one of the cabins and then head to the bars for supper and some cocktails.

I have a calf sled, so hauling stuff is easy. If you haven't been to Cooke, we'll be going the "Ride-In" route (click here for more info)

as far as the riding goes, we'll have enough people that we'll split up into 3 groups or so, depending on what people want to ride, and how people want to ride. Generally, we'll all meet up for lunch on the mountain. You are more than welcome to ride with us, or if people just want to carpool up there and ride on their own, i'm down with that too.

Here's hoping for epic powder!

How about if I meet you there?

I ride a turbo and haul a 55 gal drum around and a couple dogs so it would be best and easiest for me to drive up seperately and get a room. Would be pretty fun!
