Going out west need help with tuning?

Hi I have a 2002 Ski doo Renegade 800 and i was planning on going out west around january. I need to know if i have to change my clutching and what jets i would need to run around Bozeman, MT and West yellowstone? Also anyone that's been there got any tips and cool places to see? Thanks much.

For just one trip out here I don't think I would waste your money on any clutching, just use yours clickers to adjust to the right rpm. As far as jetting I would think the mepm will take care of that. Just go ride and have fun:becky:

Is your clutching stock? If so you should be able to just change the clickers on your primary clutch to the number corresponding to the elevation you will be riding at. I would suppose you should be running those at either 5 or 6. As far as jetting i dont have any idea. doesnt your sled have alltitude compensation?

defs adjust main jets. the computer doesnt help that much. not sure what the jetting is like compared to a rev, but if your at a 420, you should come down to 400 or 390s. and also, there is lots of riding around here. taylors fork is awesome riding, buck creek is very good as well, there is portal creek, west also has a lot of good riding in itself.

Yes clutching is stock. I am buying a 136x1.75 track soon to put on. And yes it has DPM but have been reading up on it and alot of people swear by it and alot say it doesnt really help that much. Currently the jets are stock but do agree it should be rejetted around any altitude above 3000ft. If I find some awesome places to ride, i will probably plan on coming out there every year i here lots of good things about montana wyoming idaho area. Anyone use 2 way radio GPS's? or otherwise i was thinking about just getting a regular GPS just to find my way.
Thanks for the input

I guess i didnt know that wisconsin is that low in elevation. If you are below 3000 feet then you probably should change your main jets. Where i live i am at about 3600 ft and when we get to wyoming its 9000 and over. I dont change a thing with my jets and i get along fine with the mepm.

Yeah where i live its around 1000ft. And ill try putting smaller mains in then when i go out ill take a jetting kit along so i have lots of options. thanks for the input

I have taken a ZX out west with DPM and it ran perfect. I have ridden with quite a few guys that also let the DPM do the work.
I would check your plugs when you get there to be sure the DPM is operating properly though. Worst case is if your DPM is not working, you will be running pig rich.
I would be more concerned with the clutching though. If you are at a high elevation, the #6 clicker will not get the rpms up to where they need to be. I could only muster 7700 rpm on clicker #6. That leaves a lot of power unused.
A summit primary spring and lighter pins should help dial it in better.

Ok will try that i guess when i get out there. and look into a primary spring thanks!

get rid of your carb heaters if you haven't already. they are pointless. ive ridden in -20 many times and never even thought about having to use them and i ride with all ski doo people and nobody else has ever used them. it makes changing jets easier. and the jetting all depends on what you have in there now. id look and let us know so we can help you. i could probably dig up some info on my dads sled for you if you want. its a 02 non HO 800 zx, that thing runs great. not a complaint.

Ya it would probably be the same then, and im pretty sure they are 500s? not sure and i want to put a 1.75 lug on my sled i measured a 1 3/4 in. block on top of my track and from the top of that to my heat exchanger is 1/2 in. would that be ok? I called tracksUSA and they said if theres a good 1/4 to 3/8s its ok.

I have a 03 zx summit that we have taken to cooke city, west yellowstone, and the big horns in wy. I live in nd at about 2500' and rode from 6000-10500'. i swapped to 05 rev carbs and had to get that dialed in but once i had it good in nd i left it alone for the mountains and it worked great. I always checked the plugs after i rode a while.

As far a clutching, you should have to take out pin weight in your arms of your primary. Around nd we pretty much have solid pins in the arms and in the mountains we have nothing. Its real easy to doo, they are just set screws that screw out.
