Going from Race gas to Av Gas

I've been using a blend of 110 race gas and 91 oct. in the sled for the last two years and have decided to try aviation 100ll this year due to the price and availablity. With my mixture I am guessing it was around the 100 octane area. Anybody else switch between the two and have any issues?

av gas

Was running 08 m8 twisted set up with RKTech head and DandD 901 kit . Ride at 6-8 elavation and ran 12-13 pounds all the time. Motor has over 5000 miles and no problems.

For me, I switch back & forth often, and the 112 I use requires almost exactly 1/2 as much as the AV gas, no issues with either.

Just for an idea of what you'll need.

Btw, for me here it is a ways cheaper to get race gas than av.

At the start of the year, I was blending 110 with 92 octane, but switched to straight av gas and love not hassling with mixing. I run 4000 feet and up, 9.5 lbs boost, Cutler stage II kit, no issues at all. Never hit the DET sensor.

I got in a pinch last week and had to buy race gas instead of AV. Local fuel supplier said that 110 race is equivalent octane to 108 on the scale AV is rated on. So you'll need to run a bit more AV than race gas.

I run 30% AV and ran 25% race last weekend.

wish that was true around these parts

would love to try it at 12 psi- yeeha

well, race gas isn't "cheaper"... but when you do the math on how much you need to hit what you need to run for octane it's cheaper overall for me.

What are you paying for 112 & for av around there?

btw, that added 2 in octane is exactly what I've found in comparing the two as well sled guy. If I use the calculator, and calc av gas at 102 it adds up to what I need when I compare the two.

Thanks guys. I plan on doing straight av gas instead of blended race gas. Race gas used to be easy to get an fairly cheap. I dont feel like driving back to utah to get it and if i buy it in mt it comes to around $9/ gallon. Av gas is $5.25 and no more mixing. Mostly was worried about the "dry fuel" rumors and if i had to add lead to it. Thanks again guys.

The whole "dry fuel" thing is a wive's tale (you know those wives, always talking about race gas & av gas :D ) av gas is such a common fuel for turbo guys, it's not even an issue. Btw, the race gas I use is LL as well...

avgas vs racegas

avgas is about $5.65 self serve and race is $9 per gallon at the pumps, we have a gas station in town that sells vp110. if you buy a barrel it's more like $8 or a bit under /gallon.

Kneez- should be able to run 10 psi on avgas at 4k in elevation and then a little higher psi as you go up above 7-8K. I run straight avgas at 10 psi all day every day - no det- do not want to push it past that. in it for the long haul- don't care to travel on the back edge of the power curve
