Wondering what your thoughts were on 509 goggles. Aviator vs. the new Sinister. Also what is the best lens color for mountain riding and picking up changes in the terrain. Thanks

I own a pair of Sinister's and love them. I own a total pair of 3. One set has blue tint which is great for bright sunny days, really can pick up on the contrast of the snow, even in the shaded spots. One set with clear lenses for fog or when it's snowing hard, and a pair with chrome lens. Haven't had a chance to try those yet! But blue tint works great for me on bright days. I heard yellow is a good tint for those days as well!:face-icon-small-coo

I just bought a pair of sinisters with black lenses for bright days they are really nice and I bought clear lenses for night riding and overcast days its kind of a pain changing lenses though.

Love my Aviators......yellow are my go to...work great on overcast / snowy days.....very easy to change lenses when needed.

I love my sinisters and aviators..... I run the polarized yellow in both with fan inside also... Would never bye anything else lol

I have 3 pairs of Sinister's. Non-Mirrored Orange for definition on gray/overcast days, and clear when it gets dark. Personally I have never found a mirrored lens that I like, they all reduce your vision.

.The fan helps but it took me a little getting used to. For a while I was like, what the hell is that noise. Half the time my batteries are dead because I forget to turn it off.

I have the aviators, and I really like them. Have the yellow tint. I like the fact that you can have a little bit larger field of view.

You can't go wrong with 509 Goggles. I just got some of the new X5 Sinisters today and the wider field of view is great. Much closer to the aviators now. I run the yellow lens about 70% of the time, with a clear pair for at night and for those perfect sunny bluebird days I like the black-ops.

We have had many days on the NEW Sinister X5 last season teasing, and have used the Aviators for a couple years now. Here is the nitty gritty from our side of things. Plusses and Minus of both....

SINISTER X5
PRO
~Incredible visibility with the new vanishing frame and larger lens (Nearly the same as an aviator)
~Traditional frame size and shape fits most helmets
~comes with nose protection and three layer foam that really seals to the face nicely
~outrigger design keeps the foam planted to your face without pulling to hard
~tons of lens options, and they are AFFORDABLE to try a couple
~24 designs and colors for 2014

CON
~Not yet truly compatible with quick straps without modifications
~have had complaints about the chrome lenses being extra sensitive to scrapes and give off a reflection on the inside

AVIATOR
PRO
~HUGE area of visibility, nearly 18* more than most goggles
~Frameless technology keeps any snow dust from sticking to frame edge
~trendy design, and fits the new age rider
~fills up large size helmet gaps well
~tons of lens options and colors, and once again affordable
~can change the lenses in under a minute if you practice
~three layer foam keeps even the slightest snow dust out, but is kind to the face

CON
~does not fit well with smaller helmets because it is larger
~not truly quick strap compatible

As for the lens question there is not a true good answer and never will be in the industry. Peoples eyes are all different after all. For our office staff, we all carry a clear tinted lens in either rose, orange, yellow or blue, and then we each carry a polarized smoke for the blue days. It is inevitable that you will need two lenses at least or two goggle setups to truly be happy with most conditions.

Hope that helps, feel free to shoot us any questions or comments.

Anyone running the new X5's with a Fly F2 helmet? If so how is the fit?

They're always at the bottom of my list for favorites, fog up real easy. Oakley's are my fav followed by Spy, Smith then 509's.

My sinisters are a few years old, maybe they're worn out...

We would assume some people have got them on the snow already, but we had numerous people try them on at the five shows we did across the country this year. The F2 and 509 Carbon were our best selling helmets at all 5 shows, and we only stocked 509, Klim, and Scott goggles at the shows. So there were numerous times that we had people try on the x5's with the F2. They fit exceptionally well this year, with having less of the exposed foam around the top of the frame. In fact, the goggle fits really well with plenty of models out there.

The only time there were any sort of fitment issues we saw, were with Small's and XS. Which are notoriously hard to find a small enough goggle to fit anyways.

I have a pair of the Sinister model I got two years ago. They do not fog up very easy and fit my face and helmet well. My problem with them is they cut down on my peripheral vision. Pretty disappointed that I paid good money for them and don't like them. Never tried any other models though. Just my 2 cents.
