Goggles

I have no idea if this post has been beath to death or not. New pair of 509 goggles continue to fogg and ice up. Besides heated goggles, what can be done to cure this issue.

I've got a brand new pair of sinisters that were fogging occasionally as well. last ride out I notice a little spot on the inside of the lens. the protective wrapping was still on it. since then i cant make them fog.

Or throw those overated 509's in the closet and go get some tried and true scott goggles. I have a riding partner that has two different pairs of 509's and has the same problem with both, he finally threw in the towel and went back to his scott goggles and no more fogging or icing.:face-icon-small-win

509's pre breath box, fogging. Post breath box no fogging. Same with my Scott's.

X3 on the breath box. I have both 509 and scott that I carry with, and if the day is right never have an issue. Or sometimes there is nothing I can do. IMO I think it is the temp. Hum. and weather out side. Throw a little over heating issue in there, and it is going to happen.
Oh, the breath box does help a ton.

treat your goggles like gold when your up there, when you stop throw them in your engine compartment and dry them out. when you stop for a minute or 2 to check direction or do something with your helmut on breath down and out of your helmut. never stop and take your helmut half way off and use it for a hat with the goggles still on it. if you have a quick strap never unhook it and let your googles just hang, if you sweat a lot x2 on putting them in the engine compartment when you stop. bring along some toilet paper and treat it like gold also, wipe them out just before you put them on every once in awhile. i also wear a breath deflector, when riding and they start to fog once again breath down and out of your helmut.

I removed the nose shield on my 509's and they stopped fogging. Haven't had fog issues after that...

I have a set of Spy's, Smith's, Scott's, Bolle's, and 509's. They all fog to some degree. So now I just carry about 4 of them with me and switch out when they start to fog. I also dress so I am "comfortably cool". I am a little cold when I leave the truck, but when I start riding I get to a spot where I am comfortable, but not hot.

I personally don't like my breath box. It makes it hard to breathe when your workin' hard imo. But if your just crusin' trails its a must have imho cuz it will keep ya warm!

there is nothing magical about one pair of goggles over another.

If you are fogging up 99% of the time it is not the goggles....but the way a person is dressed for that days riding.

If your warm standing in the lot...your going to be overheating when your riding...causing goggle fogging. Dress in layers....remove those layers if you starting getting hot and sweaty...and no matter what goggles you are using....they will preform better.

also as mentioned...goggle management plays an important role. You stop and get snow inside the goggle....its going to fog.

I think 509 has the perfect rating....quality goggles...from a company owned by sledders...with unmatched customer service.

Cannot think of any other goggle company that you can pick up the phone/send an email and speak directly to the owner.

No-Fog Mask will fix it, if the fogging is from respiration.

Goggle fan, if the fogging is from perspiration.

I wear a No-Fog and don't fog. It also keeps my face warm.

ER Dee,

Do you have/recommend a fan for goggles? Which color/combo is best for our riding conditions up here?

Thannk you,

akrev

509 sells the Habervision fan for use in their goggles. You can get that right from 509 or Habervision. I don't own one, but I've read multiple reviews and people seem to really like them. It's got off/on and moisture detection where it comes on when it detects humidity. If there are other manufacturers for goggle fans, I'm not aware of them.

I like to ride with a light yellow or rose tint in flat light (and I do mean light- I like just enough tint to help with terrain definition but not so much that it makes it darker than it already is).

I like to ride with a polarized brown lens on bright sunny days.

On lens color, you'll get 100 different answers if you ask 100 different people though- it really is a personal preference thing.
