glitchy speedo - likely suspects?

First ride of the year yesterday :cool: and the 05 900 ran flawlessly.

Just last week I replaced my throttle body boots and installed FBF's throttle/oil cable and as anyone who has done this knows, it involves a lot of disassembly. I am 99.99% sure that I got everything hooked up right, but now my speedo is wonky - sometimes, sitting at idle, it will show I'm doing 120 mph :eek: and when I glanced at it throughout the day it always seemed wrong and quite bouncy. Any likely suspect areas to start my diagnosing?

It doesn't really bother me as I rarely even look at the speedo when riding but I just don't like the idea that something isn't quite right.

where is the speedo sensor and any idea on cost?
did you replace yours or just living with it?

Sounds like something in the speed sensor circuit. I'd probably check your wiring and connections first, from the sensor to the ECM, etc, make sure no wiring was pinched and connections are tight, wires not pulled out of connectors, etc. If you have a digital multi meter you could try to test it first but sometimes speed sensors are difficult to diagnois this way even for the experienced.

Hmmm... I did give it a lube job last week and IIRC there is a grease nipple right down by that sensor. Might have just knocked it (or the wiring) loose. I'll check there first.

That was very helpful info.:beer;
