Getting the New Pro to perform.. Stage Tuning and our "thoughts"

I really want to get a new pro.

But, like Grumpy I would be going from a mod sled to a stock sled. So, I know I would be wanting more HP after a couple of rides also.

With so much changing from the dragon, the aftermarket guys just havent had time to get performance upgrades ready (turbos, pipes, heads, etc) for delivery yet. Be patient Grumpy and you cant compare your Pro to your 1160.

The clutching (P85 and Tss-04)is basically the same as five years ago and the HP at 143-147 is not a huge leap either. The chassis changes make this sled much better than five years ago. But I know you were talking more about HP and getting it to the ground.

I'm not tryin to be a d*ck about this since I've really been on Arctic Cats all of my life so far, so Im not claiming to be a Polaris expert, just sighting some facts that you should be able to combine to come up with a good comparison of sleds 5 years ago to the new Pro RMK today. It seems its safe to say that we are actually alot farther ahead in design and technology of snowmobiles as a whole these days than you seem to think.....

Ok, so 5 years ago, the big dog sled we'd be talking about would be the model year 2006 900 RMK. That would be the big "comparable" sled to the Pro we are dealing with today.
A 900 RMK had 149.1 Horsepower at 537 pounds. So you now have a sled thats around 100 pounds lighter from the factory with 2-6 less horsepower, a waaaayy waayy more advanced light rear suspension that's easily tunable to transfer power in different conditions. I think you will be getting the power to the ground a little more efficiently than you were 5 years ago......
Now I know the 900 makes power differently than the shorter stroke 800's, so that was your number 1 advantage when it came to power. You can compare that, but how do you figure on comparing an 1160 to an 800? That just seems silly to come on here and say the pro is nothing like an 1160.....uhh, no sh*t?
I've come to terms with the fact that Polaris didnt spend several years and millions of dollars to build a sled for ME and only ME and that I need to take an already great product and set it up to me as best as I can. I dont have the time or the cash to build a full mod sled built to my specifications, so I think this Pro RMK will be great.
I especially look forward to whatever performance upgrades RKT will be coming out with. A head & pipe combo designed to work together would be a huge gain for this sled.

EDIT: I think I've done this right.
DOUBLE EDIT :) Now I think it's better....

537lb 900 RMK w/ 149.1 horsepower = 3.6016096 Pounds Per HP
437lb 800 Pro RMK w/ 147 horsepower = 2.9727891 Pounds Per HP
(let's give the pro a handicap) 440lb 800 Pro RMK w/ 143 horsepower = 3.0769230 Pounds Per HP

Now I do suck at math so dont' jump all over my case if I did this wrong haha.

Also, Older & Wiser, I wasn't bashing on you or anything, just puttin my thoughts out there on what the other guy had eluded to in his post.

Kelsey ran my rkt 860twin piped in 7 foot in NW Mt. and she continues to run very close to turbo 8 at 8psi.

Also bought a new pro, looking for improvements so PLEASE do your magic, would love a 860pro or 860ish. Love my 860, really running good at 8500 on analog.

For record have bought several motor kits from RKT since 2005, very good results, very good service and help, good guy who calls it straight, like it or not.

I don't see what he was so upset about... He had a hot lady, a good horse and was in NYC with no traffic with an ocean view!!... Sheesh!

Did some more testing...
Installed Mod Rods Venting on the clutch side.. Very nice vents..

Made repeated loaded uphill pulls... Clutches with vents and our clutch set up stayed very cool..RPM was solid, and track speed was good..

Will be testing another custom ground cam this weekend.. but I think what we have now will be the better setup.. will know more next week..

Sled gets better every time we ride it..

Time to get some more power from the engine and see where that takes us...

What kind of track speed did you have before and after the clutching change?
Were these runs back to back teh same day and on the same hill?
How much further up the hill did the clutch kit go?

Kelsey, why did you steer clear of the dragons? If you feel your opinions will offend some feel free to pm me. I have no axe to grind with anyone, I'm just curious.

You switched the factors and clouded your point....you are talking pounds per horsepower....not vice versa.

Now it makes sense that the new Pro is the lightest per HP in your example...

"a what" Go bancrupt a casino Rain Man!

Is Kelsey's shop pager friendly?

Does Kelsey really live there? "I didn't think so!"

haha thanks, I better go back and label my answers correctly. It seems to be a trend with me, I always used to fudge my math problems by labeling incorrectly :face-icon-small-con..... YAY Hankinson High School Education System!! :first: lol just kidding, I suck at math altogether.
