Getting skid removed from IQ chassis?

Any tricks on getting the skid bolts removed from an 08 RMK?

Cross shaft keeps spinning. Tried tightening and re-tightening the one that comes loose. Also used an impact, wrenches, everything in the toolbox. Tried putting a jam nut on one side to no luck.

Anybody have any good ideas?

FYI, I did try searching the forum with no luck for answering this question (I know it has been asked before).

Here's what I do. Loosen one side a tiny fraction and then loosen the other side a tiny fraction, and repeat until both bolts are turning free. They are a pain. The jamb nut actually sounds like a good idea, I'm surprised that didn't work.

So one side you can't get out, with the other side tight? If so, it's obviously siezed. Last thing to do would be too carefully grind off bolt head, trying not to get into tunnel, and then buy another cross shaft. Heard of this prob before. Those bolts may get overtorqued at the factory, pulling threads, making it impossible to back the bolt out. Good luck.

Just to clarify..

Is the shaft spinning when both bolts are torqued and you try and remove one bolt?

or is it spinning when one bolt is out and your trying to remove the second bolt?

If it is not seized, try taking the one bolt out, lube it Real good, put it back in and tighten the crap out of it. take the other side out and then the lubed bolt should come out easy.

take out the one that you can get out, clean the loctite off, lube and re-install, heat the seized bolt head(to melt loctite), take a fast air impact/hammer blow impact driver/ or a wrench and hammer and give it all you got, as a last resort, pull the grease nipple, drill a small indent into shaft, find a bolt that will (kinda sorta) thread into the nipple threads into the indent you drilled locking the shaft in place. When you get it all apart, pull the shaft from the skid, chase the threads at both ends with a good tap.

had the same problem then changing my springs. with one bolt out i pryed it apart enough to get a pair of needle nose visegrips on the inner shaft. used a impact wrench on second bolt , after i got it apart and cleaned the shaft up i ground two flats on each end that i could get a thin wrench on to hold the inner shaft next time it comes apart . hope this helps:)
