Getting fuel to the mountains

Just curious. How do the other flatlanders out there with race gas turbos get their race fuel out to the mountains with them? 55-gal drums? If so, how do you get them in and out of the truck when they're full?

Race fuel

My buddies from Vegas got them a 100 gallon tank that fits in the back of there pick up and siphon out of it. I just put a 55 gal barrel in the front of my trailer.

Gas

When we had to carry lots of gas, we just put 55 gal drum in the front of trailer. Easiest way, but 55 gallons is fine for one person, but two people or more starts to push your luck as there just isn't enough to go around. Large container in bed of truck is the way to go.

Burck

55 gallon drum, front of trailer, with a cart straped to it for easy movability, works great for me esppecially cuz all my friends have stock sleds and run pump

Mike, what PSI are you planning on running? I don't think you need as much fuel as you think you do when you ride up here.

We only run 2-2.5 gal/ tank for 15psi & we don't have an intercooler like you do which should help you get a bit more psi out of a lower octane due to lower charge temps. You planning on running 20 psi or what???

I was going to run AV 100 LL because it's easy for me to get from the airport. Jared at Boondocker told me I could only run 10 to 12 PSI running straight AV 100 LL.

That way to go makes sense if you have daily access to the airport, but if you're traveling, it would be easier to get 116 & mix it.

Up here I would hope you could go well beyond 12 on 100LL btw.

Anybody got the formula for when you mix gas? I'm wondering what we're at when we mix 1 gal of 116 with 3 gal of 91? I doubt it's even 100.

If I do decide to go the 116 route, where can I get it?

There are 4 or 5 different grades down at bandimere. They're cheap, easy to deal with, and the way I figure it, they're going to go through more of it than anyone else so it'll be fresh.

I fill up 4 6 gal jugs about 2-3 times a season.

Try getting on the Internet to find local airports closest to the western riding areas you plan on visiting. Bring a drum or two and then refill them out there if you run out.

Building a tank as we speak

I have a sled deck on my truck and am in the process of making a 60gal alumanium fuel cell that will fasten to the underside of the deck closest to cab with a electric pump and fuel handel with a 12' hose on a bracket near the back for easy access. It will have a hinged alumanium access door with lock of coarse on the top of the deck, open the 8"X8" door and you will be looking at a gas cap with built in fuel guage to keep er topped up.I own a m1000 twisted turbo and will be carrying VP110 on board just have to figure out how to fasten the front of my deck to the floor.

I'll just sell you a trailer with an 80gallon fuel cell built in with pump and fuel station thats how we get the race gas to the hills if you need any more you can put a drum in nose so you will have 135gals no I sell trailers with fuel station on them thats really nice thats how we pack fuel

Race Gas fuel station

Thanks RWS already checked them out they dont make 60gal tanks that will fit under a sled deck, fairly custom. All they make are 20 gal gas caddys or diesel tanks which could be used for gas but nothing 60 gal that will fit under a deck.I hear your point on the trailor but where we go decks are the only way no where to turn a trailor around.Plus I like the weight over my axels for traction.

Quick, I've thought about having a simple type of container attached to my SLM decks, I think that'd be pretty cool to have. If I even had a 20 gal alum. tank attached to under the driver's front of the deck, that'd be ideal for me.

Honestly though, I just don't understand the need to carry that much fuel unless you're running straight race. (I guess lower elevations you'd need way more than we use though)

12lbs of boost on a twisted m1000, i run straight 110 to be safe dont want a melt down. Good fuel is cheap insurance in the long run. We go to areas for 4 to 5 days that dont have race fuel near by like revelstoke & sicamous and if they do they want an arm & a leg per gallon. Much cheaper to by it by the drum. That is what the big tank under the deck is for, get me through a 6 day ride.
