Getting frustrated...HELP!

I hope I'm posting in the right section. If not I apologize. I have a 2006 Crossfire 700 snopro and last year it ran great other then fuel consumption was pretty bad. This year it is going through gas worse then ever. Also for some reason my sled really hates powder. Went out last weekend and any time I went into any powder the sled would start to bog out. I don't know if the two problems are related or not. Everthing in my sled is stock and I wasn't even in that deep of powder. So I can't understand what would be causing it to run like crap. I pretty much have to feather the throttle until I get out of the powder and then it runs fine. I thought maybe it was the vents getting plugged but as far as I can tell that isn't it. Anybody with any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Doug

Shot in the dark here, but how many miles are on your belt? How is the belt deflection? If the belt is old it may be a decent place to start. Also you may want to clean the exhaust valves make sure they are working.

The belt I put on towards the end of last season so it's in really good shape. Was summered with maybe an eighth tank of gas and have since filled it three times so I don't think it's gas. Track tension looked good, but not sure how that would cause the engine to bog out on me. Don't think it's anything to do with the exhaust but will be double checking that. Might have to take it in to have the clutch checked and the powervalves. Thanks for the input guys. Season is just getting started here and to have my sled running like crap is really getting on my nerves.

we had a m7 do the same thing and it turned out to be bad gas running down the trail the sled would run fine maybe a bit harder than usual and put any more of a load on it and would crap out on us

after calling the dealer checking forums etc decide it was bad gas after the sled sat for about 2 hours you could feel the bottom of the tank had solid ice on it we drained the bad gas pulled the tank got all the water out re filled with new gas and put a bottle of heet in her and she's ran great since but also religiously used heet since

I thought I had read that you NEVER want to summerize/store an EFI sled with a small amount of fuel in the tank. You want the fuel pump to be immersed in fuel for the summer. Carbed sleds, I do differently but we're talkin efi here.

I'd siphon any fuel out, start with fresh fuel, throw a little red iso heet in the tank, some good quality fuel injector cleaner and run it for a while to work the new gas into the fuel lines and motor.

EDIT: Do the powervalves yourself and save yourself that money. Those are easy to do. When you pull them you'll be able to tell if they're all gummed up and nasty or not.

If is bogging out on you in powder, it is running too rich. Sticking injectors, too much fuel pressure, or partialy blocked air intake. All these would account for poor performance and mileage.

Well...I know that the firecat and the cross fire are a little diff. I know that I had a huge prob. with bogging bad in powder. My air intake is a scoop on the hood and when I got into pow..it would bog and I would have to feather the throttle to get it out and on to power. I put some frog skin screens on the hood at the intake and that solved the prob for me.

Check the power valves though...that is to be done every 1000-2000 miles.

Check smart valves in the tank...you should be able to pull them out from the tank opening.

I also use StayBil in my sleds and have a full tank of gas when I store them for the summer. They are efi...I have not had one prob with them starting or any other prob from bad fuel.

The above peeps have good ideas also....just my 2 cents for ya :)

Thanks everyone for the helpfull ideas. We ended up cleaning the powervalves (they weren't to bad), changing the spark plugs (they looked like crap, but could definately tell the sled was running rich), took a shim out of the clutch (clutch was off a bit but not bad), and put some heat in the gas. Will be putting some injection cleaner in the next tank to see if that helps too. Rode Sunday morning. Seemed to run a little better but the snow was too hard to really tell. Hoping to get some powder in the near future to really try it out. Thanks again for all the help!
