Geting 2011 crf450 ready for the snow.

Had a 09 had lots of gas in oil , I'd try a thermostat to start , block rads off in powder , build some shields to block snow from getting to the engine and get a pod style filter direct of the throttle body , no air box , unifilter is the brad we have bend using ,
Start with that and go from there

I agree with the post above after running that same bike for two years.

-Pod filter
-Something to direct snow away from the motor
-Thermostat

Also good to have if the budget allows:

-Fuel programmer, Dobeck works great
-At minimum a temp gauge, trail tech has some good options
-An exhaust will free up some power on that bike
-Handguards - Cycra probends work well.
-Heated grips, trail tech makes a wiring harness for the CRF's that gives you a starting point. I actually have one sitting on my work bench if you're interested.
-There is a simple injector mod on those - you just turn the injector 90 degrees, it give a noticeable increase in throttle response.

Those CRF's work really good as a snowbike!

Comments above are spot on, ran my 09 for three years.

- Pod filter, check out frozenboost for a 45 deg reducing elbow, then add Uni snow filter + outerwear
- Zip-tie the IAT (intake air temp) sensor to the subframe behind the side panel
- A fuel controller is nice if you have the $$$, if not just get your ECM re-programmed by Sisneros Speed Works. Tell him specifically it will be for snowbiking and will run in cold temps. Cost is like $50
- As stated above exhaust makes a significant difference on these bikes, a Yosh RS-4 + SSW tuning will vastly improve the overall power and will gain close to 5 peak HP.
- Stiffer fork springs, the front end is pretty mushy for snow, I had FC .51 kg springs.
- I never used a thermostat, but I thinks its probably a good idea.
- Check the oil every ride, if it smells like gas or the bike is gaining oil, change it. I never had a probablem with oil in gas, but I know come people have.

Few simple mods and the CRF is a stellar snowbike!
