Road to Artist Point temporarily closed due to snow
Road crews temporarily closed the road to Artist Point on Monday morning, Sept. 22 because of snow in the area.
The state Department of Transportation has placed temporary barricades on Mount Baker Highway at milepost 55.2, near the Mount Baker National Forest's interpretive center.
Artist Point is located at the end of Mount Baker Highway and boasts 360-degree views of Mount Shuksan and Mount Baker. The road, 2.7 miles long and more than 5,000 feet above sea level, is typically buried under snow and closed October through June.
The closure is day-to-day. Crews will reassess the situation Tuesday and determine whether it is safe to reopen the road.
