Looking for folks to help post Wilderness Boundary signs. We'd like to get a lot of this done this fall. We can get to lots of the locations by sled, but some should be done on foot.

This is specifically for the Cle Elum Ranger District, but I'm sure other districts would appreciate some help as well.

Many of the locations will be in the Teanaway and will require a 6-12 mile round trip hike with a few thousand feet of gain. Some will be on the Salmon La Sac side, and might be partially accessible by the Van Epps Jeep Trail, etc.

We're meeting with the USFS at the end of the week and will have some specific locations then. If you have suggestions for common Wilderness entry points, feel free to chime in and make sure we don't miss any.

Where are you meeting with the USFS...and are others welcome to come and join in the meeting?

If not, keep us posted on possible dates to help out.

Thanks

Great post, would love to help out anyway we can. One thing to consider (ladder or climbing gear) I've seen where people post signage in the fall only to be covered by10'- 15' of snow . Keep us posted on when and where, thanks.

I'm just sitting down with the Cle Elum District Winter Rec Manager in his office on Friday. Nothing formal. We're just going to sit down with a map and identify areas in the district that could use better signage. This isn't an attempt to discuss policy or represent snowmobilers as a whole. This is just a few individuals who are trying to help out.

Anyone else who is up for putting some miles on their feet and is very familiar with the problem areas is welcome to join the meeting. PM me if interested.

Yeah, there are definitely some locations that need to be done in the winter, or need climbing gear (which I have). But, many of the entry points are saddles that stay pretty thin of snow on the windward side. This is part of what we'll iron out on Friday.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to help, but I do want to say thanks for putting out the effort. It's a great thing that you're working with the USFS on this. Keep up the good work.

I'm in, just have to make sure the schedules sync with my customers needs.
Keep me in the loop.

There are existing signs in many locations. Some may be gone, some are still there. The USFS is under-staffed, and is happy to have our help in maintaining and adding Wilderness boundary signs. Part of our job will be to check on the status of existing signs.

We've got several locations selected, but we have lots of flexibility. We can get a few put up now, and some put up when there is snow on the ground. We can decide where the signs are needed.

There's no set plan on getting this done. If you know the area, and have the time to go, go for it! I'll get you a sign. We can discuss the specific locations offline. No secrets here, just trying not to advertise the Wilderness entry points to those who don't already know them. Basically, we're talking areas around Van Epps, Lake Ann, Ingalls Pass, Longs Pass, and a couple spots in the eastern Teanaway that will require a little more effort.

I'll try and post on here when I'm going to hike, if anyone wants to coordinate with me. I'll try and take a few of the more strenuous locations.

Would like to make sure and get someone involved from the Wenatchee area. Specifically, someone who rides the Negro/Stafford area. I've ridden there enough to recognize the standard entry points, but could use more help there.

The USFS would like us to log our time. It will benefit them, and it will be good for us as well.

Thanks everyone.

PM if you want my number to talk directly.

DID YOU ALL GET UP THERE YET??

Tim from the forest service brought this up at last nights meeting, did you guys get up there yet??
thanks dan

We've spent two days up there so far. We put up a few new signs and got some better visibility in the most common Wilderness entrance areas.

A few guys might do one more day, mostly on quads. The rest of the locations should already have signs, and we'll just be doing maintenance throughout the season.

Jeff, thanks for all of your hard work you and others have done the past few weeks (followed the thread at BCR) good ambassadors for our sport. I don't have a quad but am willing to help anyway that I can, obviously not this weekend (snowshow) but we should have a few more weekends before the snow flies :rain: did I just say that?:sorry: Thanks again. :hail:

lake ann area

I'm guessing you hiked into Lake ann and put signs up on the upper ridge to the north? also did anyone goe down to Van Epps and hike up to the top of the valley and put any up ? I was up there on the high hunt and noticed the wilderness sign was laying on the ground and pretty much ripped up. I have some of those bright orange signs, If I knew they were down I would have taken a few up , next time for sure,
