General sled deck or trailer opinion

I have a chance to get smoking deals on a sled deck or enclosed trailer but cant decide which. I am a single man so no kids or damn wife to worry about but have two mountain sleds and occasionally travel to canada or idaho with friends so have to tow a bigger trailer. I can pick up a new sled deck for 1500 or 26 ft 4place enclosed trailer for 3500

well i don't know what your roads/parking are like. but my enclosed sits in the yard most of the season while the deck takes the sleds up the sketchy roads with no turn arounds. if you have two sleds can't beat a deck, and if your road trip'n tow your friends trailer. in fact i run a hitch extension and i can tow a trailer and still use the deck!

Exactly what he said. Also dont have to worry about sliding off of an ice covered logging road in the boonies with a trailer hooked to the truck.

Got a nice enclosed... it's a good place to store my sleds, but it hasn't left the house in 3 years!!!

Trailers are gheyer than butterfly kisses covered in rainbows!!!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

SLED DECK YO!

i had a trailler, built a deck.. just took the deck out for the first run of the year, we drove way up into the middle of nowhere on a snow covered logging road with nasty ruts in it (lots of hunters driving around lately) ALL I have to say is, the trailer is only getting used when I have more people to take along, so nice, and you can turn around wherever you want to.. cuz backing up a trailer in a rutted up road.. the trailer stays in the ruts, pain in the ***... no worrying about trailer tires, registration.. parking.. I was VERY happy with my deck.. and the truck acts almost like its empty, has a hair more drag, just like driving into a mild headwind, but nothing excited.

I run a sled deck. But if the truck with your deck is your daily driver you can run into issues there. ie bank drive thrus, etc.

trailer are good if you need a mobile shop. Alot of big mod guys run these becasue it is hard to put a drum of race fuel up on your deck. You will also loose the bed area of your truck with the deck.

But i use a sled deck and they work great if you have a 3\4 ton truck of larger.

Why don't you just buy both..I mean you can't beat those prices! We actually have both a deck and a 28 foot enclosed..love them both! They each are great for different reasons.

Don't want to hijack your thread ,but would you not suggest a sled deck for a 04 Fx4 crew cab with the short 5'5" bed. Been trying to decide also between deck or trailer, like the idea of no hassle ( space for trailer, maintenance ) with the deck.

I had one of those for a couple weeks, it does work... but I've got to admit, the deck frame sits on the tailgate & it was less than ideal.

Tim... for god sake man... you live in CdA, go over to Mike's & get yourself a new deck! The new expandables are really nice!

i got rid of the beavertail for the bobtail about 4 years ago. That is just an old pic. I don't have that truck or deck anymore. still have the plow though. Mike has nice decks but my ski-hi that i have is really good and i prefer there ramps to silverlake.

I would go for the trailer. Storage in the summer for the sleds! Never understood the deck fad....might be ok for the weekends actually going riding but what a pain in the butt for the rest of the week cruising around town! Trailer can be used for many other things than sleds too. Deck is kind of single purpose.

He*l for 3500 I'd take that 26' enclosed! So if you get the deck I'll take the trailer

Lots of good replys. Nobody has mentioned the cleanliness factor though. I can't stand the end of the road trip when my sled is exposed to the elements and every nook and cranny covered in $hit. No telling what it does to the mechanicals. Trailer for the protection is my vote.

Having them on a deck is not like having them on an open trailer, not even close. On a REALLY nasty day there will be a small bit of gunk on the sleds, but sitting 7' up in the air, they don't get hit with much.

There's also the safety factor on the road. Weight on the wheels, nothing to jackknife, nothing to go wrong... it's hard to beat.

Btw, if you have an expandable you don't even notice it during the week.
