Gen II steering post re-enforcement

I need to re-enforce my steering post on my gen 2 with the five inch risers it bents a little sometimes when i boondock.
I will purchase an aftermarket on the off season but for the rest of this year what i can i do. Can i stick another peice or rod down there to help a bit, Althought where the mounts mount onto the post the hole is quite a bit smaller.

yes, drive a rod in there that "barely fits"(drive it in with a hammer) may need to do some grinding on the rod to get it to fit just right, might need to drill out a little bit, don't recall for sure. Take a look to confirm. The one I saw done was also welded at the top, once driven all the way down. Stiffens it up real good. Also replace those 2 bolts that go into the hoop with grade eights..:beer;

my buddy did the same thing.......pounded a rod down the stearing post.......you cant go all the way down the the bottom with the genIIs......cause they have that kink about 12inches down it...ive been thinking about doing this to my genII also...i got a big riser in it and im afraid im gonna bend it real bad if i roll it or something....
thats my 0.02 worth!

Problem with just doing that is the steering post will bend farther down since the rod only goes to the first bend. A mount just under the handle bar mount is needed. I used an old AC steering mount, custom extensions and bracket.

Ok, here we go again.
There have been loads posts about this very subject over the years.
Drive a rod down it, use epoxy resin, whatever.

None of that works. It just transfers the weak point.
The stock post is just flat weak.

The only real solution is to put a chromoly post in.
Wildchild makes the best one out there but you can find it other places like SLP.

Feel free to try the rod or epoxy, but remember, WHEN it breaks (notice I didn't say if) you better have a tether on it or the sled is going WOT into any solid object it can find. In my case, an 8" pine tree. Sheered the tree off and cost me over 800 dollars in parts to put the sled back together.

Personally I used a Wildchild +4 post. It did work well. Interesting that yours fragged. I've seen posts bend over the years, but never one that has completely let go. Where did your G2 post let go?:beer;

I had re-inforced the post with a rod.
The post sheered off right below the weld on the very top of the post. Where the flat plate (that the bars bolt too) is welded to the post. After it broke off I looked and you could see where it had been slowly flex breaking over time. Took about a season, but it did break completely off.

Not the way you want to end a day.
