Gen 2 motor fitment to old Indy Wedge

I could really use some input here. I am thinking of buying a replacement motor for a 98 xc 700. This was the last of the old Indy wedge style platforms. The motor I'm trying to fit is built on the 800 bottom which came first on the gen II, then later in the edge and pro-x chassis. It has the 40mm rackmount carbs and an SLP single pipe for (I believe) either the gen II or the pro-x. While I'm pretty sure It will bolt to my motor mounts my questions are -

1. Can the rack-mount 40mm mikunis fit with my existing steering column and airbox? My dealer says no - but he said a 1.25 ripsaw woudn't fit either and was incorrect...

2. How likely will it be that the pipe will physically fit into the wedge chassis - (I'm not afraid of cutting the belly pan to get the pipe out, but if it's going to ment the hood or simply not be able to clear the shock tower or what have you that's a bigger issue.

Oh if I'm wrong about the motor mounts someone let me know that too...I'm going under the assumption that the dealer is right in that respect.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has tried this type of engine swap, or any VES style motors to the older indy frame and if so, what problems they have encountered. Thanks all for your time.

Thanks! When you say changed the pipes a bit, do you mean you had to alter the brackets/bellypan and stuff? Or you physically cut or modified the pipes? I can do bracketing and stuff but welding on exhaust stretches my abilities a bit. Also did you use k&n's with the carbs on there or did you modify the airbox somehow. Kinda looking for some tips here to see what I'm getting into...thanks again.

I used Kickass filters and as for the pipes I had to change the angles of the flange because they were tilted downward because of the ves valves. Also had to change where the pipes joined with the muffler.

the gen2 and the wedge is the same chassis just different bellypan. very simple the only thing should not have to change a thing. they have the same bulkhead. the pipe fits just might hit the hood

Motor

All the big block twins have the same bottom end so it will go right in. Carbs and air box should also work because they are mounted on the bottom end. Pipe fitment is determined by cyinders. VES or non VES. Assuming you are using the 98 motor straps. If you use a non ves motor then the 98 pipe will work on a 700 or the 2000-2001 Gen II will work on the 800. If you are using a VES motor then the 2000-2001 Gen II pipe will work with a 01 XC Y pipe. The 01 XC was a VES motor mounted in a straight up and down postion in an egde chassis not tipped forward like the later edges. SLP's pipe volumn on non ves 800 and the ves 700 and 800 pipes are the same so the GEN II pipe will work on either motor. I ran a 02 800 VES in the Gen II chasssis with the XC y pipe and the non VES pipe. Ran great.
