Gee, didn't someone on here predict this?

the judge should go ahead and pass sentence, then make the prosecutor serve it.

Uncle Ted should go and sue the Chit out of the govt for defimation of character, loss of life happiness, loss of ability to earn a living just to begin with. This was one h3ll of a smear job, and now the courts are going to just dismiss it.

The new strategy, charge a Senator from Alaska, (the home Palin) with something, then drop it after the election. Nice, the Judiciary effecting the Legislative.

I voted for Ted every election from when I turned 18 in the early 80's up to the point I left Alaska in 2004. If I was there now I would vote for him again. He has done a lot of great things for Alaska and the rest of the US.

Not that it's any of my business but does this part make any sense?

Stevens was convicted of seven felony counts of lying on Senate financial disclosure forms to conceal hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts and home renovations from a wealthy oil contractor.

In court filings, the Justice Department admitted it never turned over notes from an interview with the oil contractor, who estimated the value of the renovation work as far less than he testified at trial.

So if I'm reading this correctly he still got the gifts and home renovations, they just weren't as expensive? I don't mean to stir the pot here but doesn't that still mean he was corrupt? A bribe is a bribe, be it $100 or $100,000. I realize it was only done to win the election, and no I don't like Obama, but it seems that he was caught collecting bribes. Am I wrong here?

I think so, from what I've read, the judge completely dismissed the charges because prosecutors knowingly presented false evidence, and witheld evidence that would have helped the senator, ie their star witness contradicting himself about the renovations done. The judge appointed a prosecutor to look into charges against the prosecutors in the case.

I think some of the media is still trying to lynch the guy, but it looks like he paid for everything done to his house. For a judge to go as far as this one did, Stephens did nothing wrong.

if hte convictions were done under false pretenses (which is what is sounds like) then they are void...So, the prosecution is now being investigated (which is EXTREMELY rare) and potentially being prosecuted for their misconduct...

His wife paid the bills for what they were quoted, they were never billed for the additional costs.

Ok my bad, guess I didn't read the whole story. But ya, if he did get falsely accused, and that's what cost him the election, what can be done about it now? Seems to me even if they retracted all statements and put everything in the paper and on the news, the damage is already done. The trial by the liberal media is over, anything the actual courts come up with now is a moot point.

The messed up thig is he almost beat the dumba$$ that did get elected even with seven felony convictions. I voted for Ted and would do it again. The republican party of Alaska is calling for Begich to resign so there can be a special election. But it will never happen cause he knows he can't be Ted fairly.

Cant you guys set up a recall election to boot begich, then re run the election.

Despite the costs of it.. I'd be in favor of a special (re)-election Begich vs Uncle Ted.
He wasn't elected stricly because of the (false)charges. Even though he 85 yo. I'd vote for him just like I did back in the early to mid 70's.
Even though the Gov't fired their attys that stumped up these charges and with held evedinse, I think they should be brought up on charges and their liar (law)licenses revoked forever
