Gears

you can try ebay...or the swapmeet here...lots of luck with that, but its hit and miss...plus its out of season...but keep looking..

what year is your 900...

if its an 06....go with 19/42 gearing ..period...stock chain..

if its an 05...read this...(this is what will fit with and w/o stock chain)

19/41 (2.16:1 gear ratio) will take a 90 pitch chain
18/40 (2.22:1 gaer ratio) will take a 90 pitch chain
19/42 (2.21:1 gear ratio) will take a 92 pitch chain

also a good thread to read for gearing info..

Its a 05' with 19/39 and I believe a 90 pitch chain, I'm sure its stock. So you are saying with this chain I cannot use the 19/42?

if its 19/39 in there now, you have the stock 90 pitch chain...so NO..you cannot use 19/42..

Would 18/39 be the best to run with the stock chain or is it worth buying a different chain? Could I run 19/41 if so do you think thats enough of a change to tell a difference?

Would go with one of the above set ups, there are a few "NOT RECOMMENDED " by Polaris as chain tension etc becomes an issue.
18/39 2.16
19/41 2,15 but is this an acceptable set up ? Look in the gearing chart!!!!!!
Don't have it at the moment...sorry

WOW! the gear ratio i got in my sled right now is, 24/38- 1.58 track speed is 114 mph with the 19/42 ratio what is the track speed?

Has anyone ever heard of a 18 tooth sprocket slipping? Because its smaller. I have a few mods but nothing like a turbo or any internal engine work.

Lol..no..they are splines so it wont slip..some don't like the chain angle the 18 gives..but I do ;)

Do you think it wears out the chain guickly? Do you think this is the best route for keeping my stock chain?

i dont think it wears the chain out any faster then any other gearing would do..it will stretch over time..so you need to make sure you check and adjust your chain tensioner at least every 4-5 rides...

your best bet would be to try the gearing combos i listed above and see what you like best...some work better for flats, hillclimbing, boondocking then others...i do a little of everything, an 18/40 works well for me...

The deep snow manual says the 18 tooth part # is 2900002, but that wont come up on babbits. I know the 42 tooth gear had a new part number. Do you know the new part # for the 18 tooth or a good place to get it?

not sure man..your best bet would be ebay..or swapmeet unless you order it straight from polaris with the part number you have above..
