Gearing

I need to gear my snowbike up. It's a kx500 with a Mototrax Mt 137 on it.
My question is gear ratios. If I go up one tooth on the countershaft will that be about the same difference as if I went up one tooth on a dirt bike?

Yes, and the mtx used ktm sprockets on the drive axle so you could go smaller there. If you gear up Just don't abuse the clutch too much, it will fry pretty quick on the kx500.

Cool thanks for the info ?
Right now I only use the clutch for starting stopping and shifting, there has never been a need to stab it. Even in 3rd gear rolling at walking pace in deep snow I can just roll on the throttle and she pulls hard. I fully rebuilt the motor this summer and gave her the whole 9 yards, ported, raised compression, tightened squish, etc, etc.
So right now I don't even touch 1st gear and I am already starting to pull mid 5th on access roads, and I have only been snowbiking a short time so I know I will be going much faster soon.
2nd and 3rd need some more legs as well, they rev out way to fast.
So I am thinking 1 tooth up on the cs should be good.
Does it still work that one tooth on the cs is equal to 3 on the rear even though the rear sprocket is already so small?

No it doesn't work that way. Think of it a a percentage of change. The 1 to 3 ratio only applies if the rear is about 3 times as many teeth. 15/45 would be exactly 1to3 but 14/17 is much closer to 1to1.

Thanks I was thinking it was along those lines so it is not really a big deal if I change front or back ?

I messed around with gearing on my timbersled. I made my changes in the chaincase but the principle is the same. Stock was 17/17, and found it too slow as well in 2nd. 18 over 16 ended up being perfect. Made 2nd gear into more like 2 and a half, and the added top end on the trail was nice too. Not sure what your sprockets are between your countershaft and your track kit but that should give you an idea of how many teeth you want to go up.

I am needing to change my CS sprocket from 16 to 15or17. And my chain case is 17-20.
I am running a KTM 690. Does anyone know which CS would be better? 15 or 17?
Thanks
I been using the 15t on my 690 , but since I have never used the 6th exempt on drag race with snowmobile I will use the 14t so see if I can get it to improve on more technical terrain and no fry the rekluse
