Gearing

I have a 2008 RMK 600 that currently has stock gears in it which are 19/41.. Can i change the top gear to a 18 Tooth without changing the chain. I am not sure what chain is in it to be exact.

stock gearing on your sled should be 20/41...
stock chain is 76.

I'm pretty sure you'll need a shorter chain for 18/41. You should consider 19/42

I though it was 20/41 stock as well but its not. In that year they put a 19/41 in it. Just cause of dollars i would like to try 18/41 if i can.

2007 service manual says 20/41...

You should take a look before buying new gears just to be sure.

if you put an 18 top gear it will eat your chain quicker and your chain life will go down dramatically. 19 top is about as small as you would want to go

i opened it up last night and ya it is definately a 19 on the top. I put the 18 on just to see how things would work. It seems to be alright but i defeinately agree it will eat the chain quicker. I went to the mountains last year and i needed just a little more bottom end... Do you think i will get around 200 miles out of the chain problem free and then when i get back home put my 19 back on?
