gearing

Got my 19t top gear put in, went good took me about 2.5 hrs, I didnt hurry by any means, and no beers!! Just wondering what I can expect from it now. Stock 08 Apex MTX. I dont know what the bottom gear is it has never been touched so 40t maybe? Thanks. I wont be able to get it out till next weekend to try it out. But I would expect a bit more bottom end and less top speed?

Actually mine is still at 20-40. I just put a new chaincase, gears and chain on mine and stayed with the 20. My friend that had the sled before me decided to keep it this way, thought that it worked great as it is. This is a Turbo sled though, may not make a difference being that you gain some on the bottom. I would be curious to any big differences as well, maybe switch it up next year.

I was told it would make a difference, thats why I did it. But how much, I dont know. I will post when I get out with it. I am not really worried about doing 100 plus mph, so top end loss is not an issue (my last sled only did 80mph and I rarely saw that). I was generally happy with mine with a 20 tooth, but always want a bit more for cheap. Cant afford a turbo and bottom gears are way more money, so why not try this out. Worst case is I dont like it and change it back to the 20 tooth.

I recently changed to the 19t as well. But I also got a complete clutch set up from Hartman. Tom recommended the 19t for 10,000 ft. All I can say is that it's much better. I did notice a little more noise from the chain case.

i changed to a 19t to help keep track speed up turning my 2.5 camo extreme. at the same time i also went to supertips x series weights and shockwave secondary and i was quite pleased with the results.

Thanks for the tips, I am a little excited to try it out, but to cold this weekend.I have to try to at least show up with the xp's I ride with. I know the 1 guy I am a better rider than, but the other guy is just plain crazy!! I figure a bit quicker track speed on climbs wont hurt. I already embarrassed the 1 xp when we were boon-docking (he is just learning the sled so I have to do it now)

so what is the difference if you go to a 42 tooth bottom gear compared to a 19 tooth top gear, is it close to the same.

Math. 42/20=2.1 40/19=2.105 The only reason to use a 42 vs a 19 is because you have extra money and felt the need to buy the more expensive larger gear and another chain. 19 tooth gear is $20.

yea id say i got screwed. thanks for the info.

Tom TRIED to sell me the same stuff. In the end my own clutching was as good an $400 cheaper.

so right now i would be better off buying a new top gear and using the stock chain than buying a new 70 link. my clutches have been pricey this year.

the bolt holding the bottom gear i think came unthreaded. i took out the case also. gears were fine. chain and case and cover destroyed.
