gearing question

Question: i have a 20/41 gearing setup w/ 76 pin chain that came stock on my 2006 Poo 700 (755) RMK 151 length track. Would i be gaining/losing anything if i went to a 19/42 gear setup and can i retain the 76 pin chain? What is recommended (gearing) as i will be extending the track to a 159? I Ride all mountain and enjoy some highmarking. Sled has been slp piped and has a firenice airbox conversion. Nothing done to the clutch....YET.

Yes, 19/42 can be accomplished with the stock chain and will greatly help lower your belt heat and retain track speed on the climbs. You'll still have plenty of top end on the trail too if that is important. Setup the clutch according to SLPs recommendations for your riding style, desired, RPM, etc... and you should have a good start. The standard Black and Green Polaris spring seems to do well, but the primary is really up to you... I'm not too sure how the 700s are clutched to be honest:beer;:beer;

So you can use a 90p chain for the 19/42 setup....is this just on 06's because I thought the 05's had a longer chaincase??

I'm not sure if you can do 19/42 with the stock 05 chain... There's not a lot of slack in the there judging by how the 19/39 setup looked when I pulled my cover off. I know it can be done on the 06, but I couldn't tell ya on the 05 chaincase.

Edit: Yes, the 05 chaincase is several inches longer from the gear centers.

gearing

my wife has the 06 700..so i am pretty familiar with the gearing/clutching since i do the work ;)

DO the 19/42 gearing..94fordguy is exactly right..lower belt temps is the most imp gain from this..and you will retain your stock chain for it..plus hers is a 159" track and she can hit 70-75mph on it with it all

also make sure your using ONLYthe 3211115 belt (proper shimming/belt deflection)

for your secondary..she is using a 66/42.46 helix, 2 derlin washer, red/pink spring, and a floated secondary and its perfect for us at 6K-8K ft

we use 10-68 weights with black/green spring

NO..
the 05 900 uses a 90p chain and if you want to go witha 19/42 you will have to get a 92p chain..not worth spending the money for a longer chain when you can get a close gear ratio from the stock chain and either 19/41 or 18/40 gears..

my 18/40 gears rock...

Thanks for the info, by the way what is a floated secondary? Where is the best place online to find these parts at a good price?

Are you sure on this? I thought all the new sleds are running the 3211115 belt? I have an 1111 belt on my 9 right now as that's what the last owner ran, and I'm gonna have it re-shimmed and set up for the 1115.

Are the 700s different?

Or maybe just a typo?

whoops

SETH...good catch..yes it was a typo...i meant the 3211115 belt...was trying to type cause i was suppose to be workin..well..what some call it..not much to do in a fire dept when no ones on fire  lol...

thanks for the catch...

Floating the secondary..
The "floating" secondary is so that the jack shaft bearings are not put under any preload which would have the affect of pulling the shaft towards the clutch side. The bearings used in the drive train do not have any side loading strength to speak of. By allowing the driven clutch to "float" an eigth of an inch or so you ensure that there is no side preload put on those bearings which would cause premature failure.

it will also keep the clutches aligned and reduce belt heat...

you will have to add/or remove a few washers from the back side of your secondary clutch..i thnk you can "float" up to 1/4" MAX on the shaft...

the floating should be of equal distance (from dead center) on both sides once the cluthes are inline

as far as parts..depends on what your looking for..

gears/3211115 belt/helix...you can try a few places..your local dealer should be able to hook you up..but if you would prefer to order online..i go through...and of coarse the swapmeet section on the forum if you can find the parts...

get the gearing somewhere close to a 2.21 which would be 19/42 = 2.210526316
the 18/40 that Guido mentioned is 2.222222222........ which should be pretty good too. I am always worried about gearing too low but either one of these setups would be sweet. I have 3" pitch drivers and they are slightly smaller which makes my 2.05 ratio come out to a final drive ratio of 2.214. This added as much snot as piping it I thought and I went from a 166" to a 174". It was two different seasons when I did these changes tho. With yours being a 755 and lengthening your track + the type of riding you do, I wouldn't be scared of doing the 18/40 or something that would come out to be as low as a 2.25 ratio. Remember big number divided by small number will give you the ratio. A great way to extend would be avid products 3.00" pitch extrovert combo drivers, VE low profile front cooler, 159"x2.5" Camoplast Extreme with 3.00" pitch (or a Maverick). Its a better track in all around conditions and the 3.00" pitch will save weight.
