Gearing down your M8 turbo

Has anyone changed the gearing to there m8 Turbo? It seems such a good way to get bottom end. I lowered it with my none turbo m8 and the bottom is much better. I don't need to go 80 mph. I always hear that the mountain sleds are geared to high, but it doesn't seem like people gear down much. Has anyone geared down their turbo M8 Pg? Thanks

I have not seen bottom end gains that you are looking for from gearing. I think you want that SNAP! on the bottom end. It is tough to achieve with a turbo, but proper fueling and clutching go a LONG way.

We are going to try the 20 tooth top gear in our Turbo ProClimb this Saturday.
I can let you know if it works better in the trees. We were mainly looking for cooler clutches by gearing down. Our snow is often wet and heavy, so a bit lower gearing may help.

I geared my non HO TM8 down to 55-65 last season and loved the jump it had. This season Ive been riding in some other conditions, and have run out of gear, so i went back to stock 57-63. It definitely lost a little snap.

I would love to hear how it works. Thanks!

Tonysnoo, what conditions did it not work as well in?

We have no snow, so we have been traveling to other parts of the country. Most of these parts have trails to get ya to riding areas. I was running out of gear way too fast on the trails and my buddies were getting ahead...so sad....LOL

I would prolly go back to low gear if we get some snow and it stayed deeeeep for a while. If you are hill shooting, I think the higher (stock) gear feels better.

That "snap" is what I am talking about. With my mx bikes it made such a difference, and was needed for woods riding. For 99.9% of my snowmobling I am doing powder turns. I am probably not going above 35mph most of the day, except on trails. So I thought a sled that goes 90mph is wasted top end speed. I figured the low end gearing would give the sled more pop. But that may not be the case. That probably why I am asking here and am not a mechanic.

I figured it might not be done more because some people hate to loose top speed.

55-65 is perfect for trees and small hills. But I am with tony on this one... gearing at 55-65 runs out quick. Very snappy on the bottom end, but lacks the speed for the longer climbs. The best gearing for tree riding and small hills would be 55-65 in my opinion. I may switch back to 57-63 to see what mph gain I can get toward the top of the hill.
