Looking for gearing advice on my 06 IQR 660 136 1.5 track. Heading out to yellowstone in feb for the first time! Does the magical 2.01 on all sleds or just "real" mountain sleds! Thanks in advance from a MN flatlander!

just rent a sled when you get there. you will be better off.

On subject, and in agreement with Ollie, If you drop your top tooth one gear, you should be pretty close to 2.27, which I think is pretty much the magic number. I'm not sure what your stock gearing is on that sled, but you will be close.

There is a segment of the sledder population that says not to drop a tooth on top, because of chain issues or loss of power to the tight turn. Can't say if they are right or not, but I have my sled set up that way and it rocks! I'm pretty anal about maintenance and my chain lube is clear.

Off subject, and in agreement with High, have you thought about renting? I don't know your particulars but renting costs may be offset by saved transport fuel, and in the bargan, you get to try a differant sled. Just a thought.

Anyway you go, have fun, take along the proper Avalance gear and practice it's proper use before you get on the hill. We are having one of the best years for snow in a long time!

Thanks guys,
Yes renting has crossed my mind, however riding for 5 days at min $150 a day pretty much doubles the cost of the trip, as i have 3 others going and have a pull a trailer anyway! As for the stock gearing there really isn't a stock on the IQ racer conversions. I'm running 22/39 currently.

thats going to be a tough track to get off the trail. I would think that you would want to keep it spinning as fast as possible without clutch heat. imo @ 1.95 ratio.

MN,
Ok, so your gonna' run whatcha' got, so good on ya'.

If your running 22/39 that thing must have quite the top end! Can't say I wouldn't want to pull that trigger! That works out to 1.7727 ratio.
Track speed (In my book) is better than ground speed, but use what you have, get up a head of steam and don't stop for anything!

No, I will be changing the gearing, its geared for flatland use currently. Stock 600HO switchback gearing right now. But looking for a setup for yellowstone, oh i know i'm not going to be best off trail sled in the deep that is forsure! Not one bit concerned about top end in yellowstone, just looking for the most effective set up there! Dealer said 20/40 your thoughts???

if it was me I would do stock rmk gearing...20/41...should help with clutch heat and should be snappier which should help..we have lots of guys up here riding shorties...they do good if they keep their momentum up....

Drop a tooth or 2 on top. It will lose some on top, but gain in bottom end where you need it.
Top speed is pretty worthless in the mountains for most riding here anyway.

The person to speek to on this is Reggie at High Mark in Boise. 208-343-2830
They've set up a couple RR's for riding out here already.
He could give you a better set up than most.
