Gear for January 16-21st

I'm heading to the Snowy Range on January 15th, and I don't know if I have the proper gear for the snow conditions I'll be riding in. (what i have is what I'm wearing in my avatar)

I have snowboard jackets and pants. Both are waterproof and were comfortable last time I rode the snowies...BUT...the pants aren't bibs, and I don't know if deep snow conditions will work with them.

I have castle boots, and they cost me like $79.99 a few years ago. They keep me warm and dry in Minnesota and out west, but will January snow conditions work with Castle boots?

Should I spend the money on Klim gear or something, even though I might not make it out west for a few years after this year? Any info is appreciated.

Main thing is to either dress warm enough to survive a night or two on the mtn or pack along extra insulating layers. The ski pants I've seen are pretty lightweight compared to snowmobile stuff.

Gear should include compass, map, water, matches, food, and more depending upon what kind of riding you will be doing.

Yeah, I thought the pants would be fine. I'm just worrying about getting snow down my butt!

We do tight tree boondocking with barely any hillclimbing, so I always bring along survival kits and a good ol' saw.

I don't wear bibs and have never had a problem with snow going down my pants. If your jacket has a powder skirt or a way to cinch down the bottom of the coat you'll probably be fine.

Thanks, good sir. That's why I like my snowboard jacket. It fits very good and reaches down to my rear.

Beacon, probes, and shovel, then learn how to use them. Snowboard clothing will work if you're just going the one time. Anymore trips than that, invest in snowmobile specific gear, "buy the best and cry once" :wof: you know the brand.

Yeah, I make it out about once a year, so I'm not going to invest 600 or 700 bucks in clothing and boots.

I'll do fine I guess. Just have to make sure I dry out my gear every night like usual.

Make sure you layer and no cotton! I hade the Castle fusion boots for 1 trip years ago and they were soaked had to put plastic sacks in them to finish the trip. I wear Klim freerides because I dont like bibs(to much around my chest with the TekVest and beacon) and never have a problem with snow down them. The peet boot dryer was my best friend until I bought the gore tex boots. Bring a fan along to to help dry out your gear most places out there are not forced air heat so you need something to move the air around. Se ya there!

I'm from central Minnesota. Not sure where we're staying yet. Probably with Chris from Mountain Meadow Cabins like usual.

Best thing for someone who may not be familiar with the area is a GPS and compass. If you can spring it, take a SPOT along with you. Along with all the other survival gear mentioned, those will definitely simplify the search.
